If you want anything at all to work, dump the winmodem and get at least
a 56K V.90, if not ISDN or DSL. The winmodem is mostly a software
implementation, and won't work right with any resource hog application
(like a racing sim) or with anything that prevents the Windows kernel
programs from functioning properly during play.

John, in my first response I got up on my winmodem soapbox, but did not
discuss the specific problem you are having (besides being stuck with a
winmodem).
Run your Windows control panel "System" program, and see first if there
are any free IRQ's with a value of 9 or lower. If so, go to your modem
setting and see if you can change the winmodem IRQ to that value. If
that can't be done, you can use a COM port IRQ if you can disable that
unused COM port in your BIOS setup screens.
Finally, throw out the winmodem, like I said before -- ;)

My NR99 racing buddy bought a 56K winmodem and believe it
or not it works fine in NR99 and even ICR2. The trick is that the
modem setup options has a check box for DOS legacy compatability.
The Winmodem itself has a very high IRQ but for DOS compatability
is acts like it is using COM1 with all the default IRQ and BASE
Address settings! It works just as good as a real DOS compatable
modem.
I thought he blew it when he got that modem, but he accidentially
got the right one I guess. I can find out which Winmodem it is
if there is interest.

Wrong (as you may have read in my other reply to this thread).

Greg, I stand corrected. Never had a winmodem myself; everything I
parrotted there was hearsay. Thanks for the information... By the
way, the second reply I sent did provide a way to get the IRQ into a
detectable range if needed. My SB Live card in its SB16 emulation mode
would not put its IRQ into the low group, and I had to reserve IRQ 5
for it, then manually change it. Otherwise, my N2/TPTCC would not work
with the new card.

Another TPTCCer! Welcome!
