You're not wrong!
The Voodoo2 is still one of the most competitive 3D cards on the
market.
Its been at around 70 for a while now however.
If you buy on-line, or from a direct order, you might be able to bring
the price down even more.

Flame warVoodoo2 versus Banshee mix-up turns hostile
A poster advertised a cheap '16MB Voodoo2' card, and regulars explained that no 16MB Voodoo2 existed and the card was actually a Voodoo Banshee. The poster reacted defensively and the exchange degenerated into insults, with others asking that it be taken elsewhere.

Automated summary.
Steven, those people that are emailing you are right. There is no such
thing as a 16 MB Voodoo 2 card. You have Voodoo, Voodoo 2, and Voodoo
Banshee confused. The original Voodoo cards only came with 4 MB. Voodoo 2
came only with 8 MB or 12 MB. Voodoo Banshee and of course Voodoo 3 have 16
MB.

No one is out to get you and I'm not trying to turn this into
an argument. I am only trying to educate you in regards to the 3dfx video
cards because you are posting inaccurate information. A Voodoo is NOT the
same as a Voodoo Banshee. The Voodoo graphics card came out a number of
years ago, it can be had now for less than $30 if you can find it. It was a
3d add on card to your existing 2d graphics card. The Voodoo 2 is a couple
years old and was also a 3d add on card that had more video RAM and was much
faster than the original Voodoo. The Voodoo Banshee is less than a year
old, has similar technology to the Voodoo 2, but is a single card solution
for both 2d and 3d.
I'm not "looking for a fight", just trying to make you a more knowledgeable
person.

Why are you so defensive? it's very good of you to show people some
good deals. But not if you give them the wrong info. The Banshee
belongs to the 3dfx range yes, but it is not a Voodoo card. It's a
combination of the Voodoo2 minus one texture unit, and 3dfx's then-new
2D chip.
Basically we have had the following from 3dfx
Voodoo Graphics
Voodoo Rush
Voodoo2
Banshee
Voodoo3
Just because the shop has it listed a certain way doesn't mean
anything. More than likely it's some sales droid who couldnt tell you
the difference between a 3dfx and a TNT card or even knows what Glide
is.

Best thing to do... post a message about this to one of the many
Voodoo/3Dfx newsgroups. You can even connect to the 3Dfx news server
and use their from there (you can find them on the 3Dfx homepage).
Steven, you're speaking to people here who obviously know what they're
saying, and have probably been using computers (and 3D accelerators) a
lot longer than you (judging by your knowledge of 3D cards, that is).
There's no need for any of us to visit the shop where you say you saw
these cards, as they will be exactly the same as the cards we can all
find in our local computer stores.
Try not to be on the defensive when people offer you sound advice and
information. They're not screwing you around, they're not teasing and
they're not making fun of you. They are informing you that you are
incorrect.
We all makes mistakes at times - I know I've certainly made a lot of
them! ;-)

Voodoo2 compatibility does not make it a Voodoo2 card.
I am certain a banshee cannot do SLI. Example: A
SoundBlaster "compatible" card does not *HAVE* to
be a SoundBlaster.
Also Voodoo2 cards were touted as 100% compatible with
the 4MB original 3dfx Voodoo1 cards. There were not and
many games needed voodoo2 specific patches.

a Banshee. From what I've heard, they need all sorts of patches to work as
good as a real Voodoo 2, and the 2d part sucks. I would just get the best
of both GPL worlds and get a Stealth II S220 for $30 or less depending on
rebates, and a Voodoo2 for $50 (if Creative ever gets more refurbs that
is)...$10 more than the Banshee, lots faster.

What sucks about the Banshee 2d capabilities? The 2d speed and image
quality has always been top of the line. I think I remember reading that
the 2d part of the Banshee was carried over to the V3. The only negative
I've ever heard about the banshee is the 3d speed for games like Quake 2.
Also, if you think back, the Voodoo 2 also needed all sorts of patches to
work with games originally programmed for voodoo graphics and now we are
seeing a bunch of Voodoo 3 patches for games, so glide has a track record of
not being completly backwards compatible.

That's too bad, 'cause I've finally had more of this thread
than _I_ can stand and I've decided to make ONE post about it: You
mentioned that you had found a Voodoo 2 card and provided all the
relevant info that you've repeated ad nauseum... okay... someone else
merely pointed out that the card you mentioned wasn't actually a
Voodoo2 but a Banshee and you took off. It's unfortunate that you
don't seem to have looked back at the genus of this thread to see
where it started to go offcourse. I don't think at the start ANYONE
was trying to even say you were wrong - you just took it to heart and
blew it into this moronic argument about ages and "correctness" and
such. Next time, just realize that you weren't entirely right and
someone was merely trying to educate you...
Gunner
So, um . . . what racing sims (hint hint) do you like, Steven?
You tried to tell us it was a Voodoo2. it is not, has not, and will
never be a Voodoo2. It is COMPATIBLE with Voodoo2, that is, games
which run on V2 will run with Banshee. But it does NOT have all the
features of V2, namely only a single texture unit, compared to twin
texture units on a V2.
And you listen to what I have been trying to tell you, that info below
does not say the Elsa card is a Voodoo2 which you were claiming.
You have just provided the info to argue against your own post.
