Yesterday I received my Logitech WFF wheel and I'm somewhat dissapointed.
There is a grinding sound and feel while steering (I guess it's coming from
the cable-based system) which I find somewhat annoying. Is this normal or do
I have a bad wheel?
When playing the Sports Car GT demo I'm quite satisfied with the FF effects.
But the FF effects on Viper Racing (which is supposed to have very good FF
support) are far from realistic in my opinion. Maybe I'll just have to get
used to it, but right now it feels very strange.
Tom
Download the patch for Viper Racing, FF for the LWFF will be MUCH
better.

It is normal to feel the cable, however it should not be "grinding", you
might want to check out another one if possible to see if it feels the same.

Well, I don't know if "grinding" was the right word. In german I would say
"surren" which my dictionary translates to whiz(z). If it's normal to feel
AND hear the cable while turning the wheel, then I think there's nothing
wrong. Anyway there seems to be a general problem with FF wheels regarding
the smoothness of the steering.
Thanks, Tom
It shouldn't be overly noticeable - especially the sound. Mine
occasionally squeaks softly as though it needs oiling, but aside from
that it's pretty quiet.

I don't speak German, but your description of "surren" feels like a
good description of my Formula Force.
It's much more obvious when powered down.
It doesn't really feel like anything binding, but there is a slight
friction and whir of a sliding cable when the wheel is moved with the
wheel powered down.
It is *very* slight when powered up and just moving the wheel, and not
really noticeable at all when using it to play a game.
I wasn't overly impressed with Vipers FF either, BTW
It seems to go from from vague to arm twisting then back to vague way
too much. If anything, it feels overdone.

Of course, you won't feel the same in a real car. It's a (really
helpfull)
redirection of the weight transfer forces you'd feel with your body in
a real car to the wheel on your desk.

Thomas,
same for my wheel.
I'll open my Logi very soon (before the patch comes out ;-) ) and
attack it with my grease pump. I'll post the results.
