Can anyone who hosts GPL (or anything else for that matter) with a cable
modem tell me what upload bandwidth they get? I have a new UK cable modem
which has been limited to 128 Kbs upload bandwidth (which is a pain as I am
limited to hosting 10 clients). Is this true elsewhere? I am told that
upload must be a fraction of the download bandwidth. The download bandwidth
is limited to 512Kbs, as i am sharing a 27Mbs feed with (potentially) 700
others.
Any help would be appreciated.
Paul
On any cable modem setup, Download bandwidth is what makes cable modems
so great. There are only a handful of hosting parties such as web pages
and online games and ect.., There are a large number of downloading
parties though. So, Downloading is more important to the internet and
ISPs then uploading is. (just my opinion).
I can download at 396.xxx/second with my cable modem to my cable ISP.
But, I can only upload at a very reduced rate/second. I don't know what
that upload rate is.
To answer your question, YES, your upload rate will be smaller then
your download rate. By how much? I don't think there is any kind of a
standard(?)

I have 256K up AND down with my cable modem. Still can only host 7-10
reliably on GSB..
