Experiences buying from Buy.com

Kai Fuller asked about Buy.com after spotting a cheap Logitech Formula Force wheel. Most reported good prices and fast delivery when items were in stock, while Zonky cited a laserdisc pricing fiasco and others noted the site charged cards immediately and drop-shipped from Ingram Micro warehouses.

I saw the Logitech Wingman Formula Force there for 109.99 and even at 17 bucks shipping it's cheaper than anywhere I've seen (Compusanet had it for 119.99 at 9 bucks shipped + tax) anyhow, what kind of experience have any of you had with Buy.com? I hope to hear from several people good or bad as I know RAS is most likely the most honest yet still friendly place on the net. (Heck you hardly see anything I would call a flame somewhere else at this civilized post)

Overall, I think the "rule of thumb" with buy.com is that you won't have any problems as long as the item you're ordering is in stock. -- | "Instead of letting the moon be the Bill Mette | gateway to our future, we have let Enteract, Chicago | it become a brief chapter in our

I've purchased a 3DFX video card, and my Sound Blaster Live! from them. The prices were VERY low, and I was nervous until the shipment arrived. When I saw that the cards were indeed in the retail boxes and sealed just like they are in the stores, I was thrilled! Both cards are working fine, and I always check buy.com when I need any computer goodies. -- -Paul My reply address is false. Please post replies to this news group. I've bought a lot from them, including my Logitech FF wheel (just got it 2 weeks ago!). I recommend them highly.

I would agree that this is the most honest and friendly newsgroup around, but I still recommend that IRL fans wear Nomex at all times! <G> ;-) -- JB

Buy.com are a bunch of idiots & downright dishonest. For an alternative view on Buy.com, check Dejanews for alt.laserdisc and the recent buy.com fiasco. Z. Please remove NOSPAM from my email address when replying.

A quick recap for the lazy: buy.com advertised a shitload of laserdiscs at $1.11 (I think) each and as such got a massive signup for them. Unsurprisingly it was a ploy to drive up their potential value to investors prior to floatation. Thus, no laserdiscs for the people who signed up. M
I bought my TM NASCAR Sprint from them and the service was great, and price low. The wheel came reall quick and I was surprised because it was delivered not even a week after I sent in my payment. Koodos for buy.com. **** Posted from RemarQ - http://www.remarq.com - Discussions Start Here (tm) ****
I can say that I have ordered several items form buy.com and the service has been perfect. I purchased a Stealth II for $44.95 back in January I think with a $30 mail in rebate. $14.95 card is ok for me ;) The card also arrived a day earlier than I expected. Ive also ordered some misc items from them and no problems. Good luck, Scott PA-Scott -- Scott B. Husted ICQ# 4395450

Well T; This is the price of; 3D BLASTER RIVA TNT2 ULTRA AGP 32MB 128BIT (mfg part# 5000001130) $186.95 from buy.com. Here is the price 3D BLASTER RIVA TNT2 ULTRA AGP 32MB 128BIT (mfg part# 5000001130) from shoplet.com $212.95.. Todays date of both prices {June 7, 1999}. You decide. Also I order many items from buy.com & I receive all my items the next day via ground. I am lucky though; I have the Eastcoast Warehouse about a 120 miles from my home! I believe above speaks for itself.. Cheers Thom_j.

so bassically as l;ong as I don't believe in 1,000 points of light I should be fine... because I havn't heard any complaints about shipping and if I won't cry for those who loost out to the signup that is fine. :) There is no charge for signing up, no harm no foul to the prople that siugned up, although it could be considered illegal manipulation of the market maybe.

>what kind of experience have any of you had with Buy.com? No problem at all if the item is in stock... in fact, I have spent several thousand dollars at buy.com (bought an HP plotter for about $700 less than anyone else could offer....) The only thing I don't like is that they charge your credit card immediately even if the item is out of stock and won't ship for weeks... but that's not that big of a deal... I have yet to find a place that has better prices... - m. ============================================= Mike Holthouse - temporarily from Kingman, AZ Drop the "KillSpam" to e-mail me. =============================================

I believe that buy.com will be changing the practice soon, as was mentioned in a CNET article. I have purchased a NEC printer, keyboard, mouse, CDs, and a video card. All arrived by ground and without a problem. One super deal I did get was on an ATI Rage Fury 128. I purchased it for $53 (thought it was OEM and cheaper than anyone). It arrived retail and with a $30 rebate! I was able to order it on the weekend they had free shipping. $23 a great deal. The next day the card was $83, so I may have take advantage of a pricing error. Ex

Fyi Ex; I don't think it was a pricing error because I've had the same luck & I asked several reps from buycom.. They all told me the prices will change daily & if it much lower one day then the other it's the change in the next lotted stock purchase! So it pays to look each day for items you need... I do! ;0) Cheers Thom_j.

Buy.Com isn't a typicall reseller, per se. They take your order, and your order is placed with their distributer (Ingram Micro), and it is drop shipped from there. Returns _can_ be problematic in a setup like this. If you are a try & return type of purchaser, then this is not the place for you to buy. -Larry > anyhow, what kind of experience have any of you had with Buy.com? Larry 11 Jun 1999#473281
That would be the one in Harrisburg PA. That warehouse (as they all are) is actually an Ingram Micro Warehouse, which is where all their product ships from. Ingram has something like 9 warehouses around the country, and they drop ship out of the one closest to your location, or the one that has the product in stock. Hopefully, it will be both :) -Larry > You decide. Also I order many items from buy.com & I receive all my > items the next day via ground. Larry 11 Jun 1999#473282
I thought that was illegal now? -Larry > The only thing I don't like is that they charge your credit > card immediately even if the item is out of stock and won't > ship for weeks...
Larry 11 Jun 1999#473283
They don't stock anything, from what I'm told. It's all drop-ship from thier distributer directly. -Larry > I don't think it was a pricing error because I've had the same luck > & I asked several reps from buycom.. Thom j. 11 Jun 1999#473284
Now Im confused Larry? If they drop ship from the distributor why do they use those 9 warehouses you spoke of in the other replied post?? Thom_j.

Yup, Larry that is the one. I just got another delivery in one day! I always ask if it's in stock at Harrisburg & then Chicago is next. Either warehouse it takes only 2 days max but I never order if it isn't in stock!! Then I look elsewhere if I must but I'd rather use buycom though.. Thom_j.
