For his new Racer's Tip, Tom Pabst has made a GPL SoundPack, which will be
updated regularely. It should help you drive faster:
"How can my sound files make me fast? Come on....it's just a little 'ear
candy'.....not 'go fast' food! This may be one of the single most important
"changes" to make in your GPL files that will make you much, much, much
faster at all race tracks...with any setup and in any race car!"
Read the new Racer's Tip and download the files from
http://www.simracingnews.com
Enjoy!

Thanks, guys. I won't get into the debate about
whether or not a sound pack can improve one's times but I have to say that,
after my initial experience with these sounds, I'm a believer.

I thought to myself..... Of course sounds can't make me any faster,
but i might listen to something a bit different for a while, gear shift
clunk, dirt hitting the tub, gearbox whine, why not?? i thought....... well
i went from never hitting the 1:05's at the Glen, to getting a 1:05 after
seven laps with the new sound.dat file........ huh!....... noowaaay.... but,
it's true.....
Even if i hadn't cracked my P/B....(and i'm not saying it WAS the new
sounds) they sound brilliant anyway
Dontcha just luv these people who go out of their way to help others achieve
GPL Nirvana.......
Well a BIG THANX to all those who put aside their time to write
patches,programs, create files etc....
BTW whoever thought of the Yellow dot squash ball technique, get's my
undying gratitude too :O)
CYA on the track........... Davey_Willo
True , but the Ferrari sounds like a Japanese Motorcycle, I rather be 0,5
sec slower , the sound is half the experience
.
I also have downloaded and installed the sounds. They are awesome!
However, I did do a bit of tweaking to them.

Ferrari wail either! All due respect to the excellent High Gear site and Mr
Pabst but only Chapman's wobbly reinvented the wheel. :-) However for the
rest of us tweakless GPL owners against superfluous fiddlement who would like
to research tuned GPL sound consider a post from a gent named Dave whose info
i've cut and pasted and pirated:
now, but I wanted them to sound a little more "wound out."
So in the... hmm, I'm going off memory here since I'm not on my conputer at the
moment, in the APP.INI (or one of the .INIs) I think there is parameter called
"Sample RPM=XXX.XXXX." This changes the "base" RPM at which the sound is
sampled.
I think GPL uses 5200.000000 or something like that. Change it to a lower
number and it will solve your dilemma!
Basically the sample is used to match the sound at say 5000 RPM. If you make
the sample match at a lower RPM, say 4000, then you are taking that same pitch
and moving it DOWN the rev band.
I have mine at 4800.000000 or something like that. It makes the engine
higher-pitched so I am less likely to blow the engine just by sound. In fact, I
had a different APP.INI in once and did not make the change. I kept blowing
motors and couldn't figure out why. Then I watched the tach and realized that I
was blowing them because the sound wasn't "tweaked" like i had before. I was
using the default, which had a lower pitch.
Play with that setting and see what sounds best! Let me know what you find out.

My Eagle sounds like it's in a big hurry now!
Happy Motoring
I got this sound pack which I have been playing with for a few hours now. My
conclusion is that the individual sounds are very good, but at levels which
I find a little annoying. That 'skid' sound gets on my nerves after a while,
an some of the engine sounds are a little thin. The solution I found was to
put the individual sounds that I particularly liked directly into the
current GPL Sound folder. Doing this on my system gave them less volume,
keeping the engine sound more on top. But the best tweak is the advice about
altering the 'app.ini.' file. This changes all those weedy little engine
noises completely! The default figure is 5200.000000. Changing this down,
say 5000.000000, gives a 'higher' sound, changing it up, say 5800.000000,
gives a much fuller sound. Try it, you will hear the difference!!
