I'm sure all of you have read the Papy Nascar N3 GPL stuff and most of you feel let down like I do. This stuff about CPU etc. just doesn't wash with me, and of course the profit issue, learning curve. Christ the game has been in development darn near 3 years, did they just WAKE UP to this? Stop yanking on my **** Papy/ Sierra! Its starting to hurt and I'm getting stretch marks <G>. My proposal is this....Use the Nascar 2000 title for the NROS BGN series for those whom don't have or wish to upgrade their CPUs and or spend the time to learn that high tech GPL type engine. Bring out the N3 high tech sim for those of us that desire the finest in our sim experience and are willing to upgrade our systems (or already have) and use it for the NROS Winston Cup series. Get this NROS thing rolling!!!!! NROS will never be NROS until we have the bomb sim software and get the bugs worked out of the format/ system. Two sims, two series, two servers (TEN and Papy) equals forward progress FINALLY. Doug Straley
Why would you want to race on TEN when N2000 and so on are having a GPL style multiplayer system? I'd rather not pay money if i can get it free ;o)) -- Tim "Calm Down" Wheatley ________________________________________________ Tim Wheatley "Yellow menacing helmet in the mirror" http://start.at/igps_stats IGPS - Ferrari Challenge - UKGPL - Summer Cup Driver http://drive.to/grandprixlegends http://website.lineone.net/~nascar ________________________________________________
Right on. And make sure it IS GPL style, so servers can be created independently instead of having to contact some far away server across the Atlantic. It bugs me when game companies only consider American gamers!
GPL online is no where near the quality that TEN is (yes even with the problems) for side by side racing. So unless Papy drastically improves the multiplayer part of GPL and N2000... No thanks, I'll gladly pay TEN. Scottie >Why would you want to race on TEN when N2000 and so on are having a GPL >style multiplayer system? I'd rather not pay money if i can get it free ;o))

Have you ever considered that a lot of players are now using notebooks just as I am. I need to travel a lot for working and having two different email, documents, .... is a pain. Today, my notebook is a PII-233 with 64Mb but, guess what, there is no 3D video board. I have bought every single Nascar game from Sierra/Papyrus and they play great in my machine. My son has a PII-350 with an Intel I740 video board and 96 Mb of main memory. It is amazing that, with all this horsepower, GPL crawl in it. The main problem is that, we keep needing to upgrade our machines (and spend a lot of $$$$$) just to be able to run our games. I personally had stoped this. I am waiting for the US release of the Sega DreamCast and I will buy one. It will be cheap (around $250), powerfull (RISC), easy to make games (Windows CE with DirectX, maybe even migrating will be not that difficult), internet playing (standard 56K V.90 modem), 3D Video(PowerVR2), 3D Sound (Yamaha) and has both Sega and Microsoft behind it. And, for another reason, no company is in the market to lose money, not even a single one. They will do what sells well, not what we think is best. The normal player will buy GPL, try it for some time and put it away as being to difficult. It it is great? Of course it is! But, the ROI (Return of Investment) is very low. With the same investment they can get a lot more money with "not 100% simulator" games, just like N2, N99, N???. A question to you. It you where in Sierra position, i.e, if it where your money, in with one you would invest? In the one you think is the best or the one that will generate the biggest revenue? Just my 2 cents on this. Roberto

I agree wholeheartedly. I am hoping that TEN can still have access to offer N2000 on their servers with their stats, security, etc for NROS-style events..but that we will also have the ability to use a Spy-Boy type interface for pick-up racing. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. -- -/- Walk Walker Official HAL Backmarker > GPL online is no where near the quality that TEN is (yes even with the > problems) for side by side racing. From my initial contact and understanding, N2000 will implement a multiplayer function very similar to GPL but handle up to 43 drivers. It may also work on a Sierra/Papy system. Determination of whether it will make it onto TEN has not been determined yet. Scott PA-Scott High Gear Editor - "The View" - http://www.simracingnews.com G.T.S. The one thing I don't want it to be is TEN-based. If the bandwidth requires dedicated Papy servers, then at least lease the programs to organizations in different countries (for example, a local computer hobby magazine in Finland tried to set up a Warbirds server here once, but failed) so Europeans could play 20+ online games as well.

Determination of whether it will make it onto TEN has not % been determined yet. Are we making an assumption here? Yes, Papy has said that there will be a full 43 car field. And yes, they said that there would TCP/IP multi-player support. But I don't recall reading that they said they would support 43 players via multi-player. However, there has been rumors that Papy was going to run their own server. But, I thought there were some agreements with NASCAR/TEN that prohibited them from running a "racing" server. So unless they want to provide hosts with mega-machines and t1/3 connection to the Internet, I wonder how they are going to manage 43 players in multi-player. -- **************************** Michael E. Since a maximal system can barely handle GPL with 20 cars, what system do you have now that could handle N3 with 43 cars--all running around a short track? Those of us with a few brain cells discussed the problems of using the GPL engine for Nascar as soon as Papy announced their intentions. Back then obviously there was hope that optimisations could be implemented and that system power would increase quickly. Well, I guess neither is happening fast enough for a release this year of Nascar using GPL physics. I am very disappointed, but far from surprised. Marc. .
Why would anyone purchase a BMW when they could purchase a Yugo for less and save all that money? Bill / Amish on TEN
Michael, The coding will allow for 43 players, but unless we all are connecting with T3s <VBG>, I highly doubt anyone is going to see 43 drivers in a multiplayer race. Sorry if my statement confused anyone =) Here is the quote from Sierra's forum: "Also new for PNR, will be the capability of a 43 car field unlike the default 39 in N2/N99. Multiplayer support has also been updated, allowing multiplayer in Windows versions of the game and free internet multiplayer via a matching server, as well as LAN based TCP/IP and IPX will be supported." Also, IF N2000(or whatever it ends up being called) is on TEN, that does not necessarily mean it wont be able to be run like GPL is. Scott PA-Scott High Gear Editor - "The View" G.T.S. As far as making GPL go on the PII 350... Overclock it (most will...mine does 466! :) Add a $30 Diamond Stealth II S220 (not G460, an i740 board) and watch GPL scream Then, WAIT on the Dreamcast Ever heard of the Sega Saturn? If you haven't, my point exactly. Saturn was Sega's failed attempt at a 32-bit CD system (much like the Playtstation) that came out too late in the US, and had no support...It did get all of the Sega Arcade ports, but that's not enough.... -- Kirk Lane ICQ: 28171652 >Have you ever considered that a lot of players are now using notebooks just >as I am. I would like it to keep the idea of hosting thru multiple ports, like having 1 person join over IPX/SPX and 10 over TCP/IP....but add in the idea that when one person on a LAN joins a TCP/IP race, the others can join the game through the LAN...just a thought -- Kirk Lane ICQ: 28171652 >% From my initial contact and understanding, N2000 will implement a multiplayer >% function very similar to GPL but handle up to 43 drivers.
