Sierra's Professional Bull Rider game draws jokes

Bill Mette noted that Sierra was publishing a Professional Bull Rider game while fans waited for the next NASCAR sim. Posters joked that it would outsell GPL, parodied GPL debates with lines about 1967 bulls and better hoof compounds, and debated whether Sierra's spending on such titles took resources from Papyrus.

This just made my day. With all of the when/why/how questions we're stuck with regarding the next Nascar sims, you would think that we'd all had our fill of Sierra bashing. Well, try this on for size. I just read that Sierra is going to be putting out a game called "Professional Bull Rider." http://www.gamespot.com/features/e399/spo.html -- | "Instead of letting the moon be the Bill Mette | gateway to our future, we have let Enteract, Chicago | it become a brief chapter in our

> Well, try this on for size. I just read > that Sierra is going to be putting out a game called "Professional Bull > Rider." For Sierra that is nothing out of the ordinary, being they have always made and sold all different kinds of software titles. Papyrus is the one that would surpass me if they made a bull riding sim ! But after all at one time they were thinking about creating a Airplane Racing sim. Dennis
Pretty incredible, Bill. In a weak moment I bought one of Sierra's flyfishing titles. Nothing could be LESS like standing in a Montana stream than is sitting in my bedroom with a beer in one hand and my mouse in the other. Wonder how they hope to suspend disbelief? Maybe they'll include two guys who grab your shoulders and shake you while you play? Wonder if they'll have "sim" and "arcade" modes? Wonder if they'll be able to get licenses from all the big-name bulls? It's a wacky world! Kurt Steinbock

It's already OUT!!!! To think they actually spent money on THAT instead of Win95 multiplayer for N99!!! Gunner

To think they actually spent money on >THAT instead of Win95 multiplayer for N99!!! Actually, the technical stuff like multiplayer is more directly a Papy issue (be it Sierra influenced or not). I'm just kinda miffed that Sierra is spending $'s and effort in the publication/distribution of things like Bull Riding when they could be putting it towards Papy so that they can forge ahead with N3 (or a CART sim) and not have to do stupid projects like N2K. But who knows. Maybe the Bull Riding game was just a project that they purchased from someone else. -- | "Instead of letting the moon be the Bill Mette | gateway to our future, we have let Enteract, Chicago | it become a brief chapter in our

Well, if they use the money they get to do some REAL sims, I guess we'd have to settle for it... Look at the Jane's fans: they have to let Jane's do something like Fighter's Anthology, so they can get something like F-15! I just hope they're not "wasting" their money. Shameful as it is, just because WE don't like a sport doesn't make it stupid - there are a LOT of rodeo fans out there!! .... just can't for the LIFE of me figure out how ANYone could be "immersed" while riding a bull on the computer!! Hmmm....could this lead to other types of simulators (or a patch for this one) where one 'person' is atop another? The mind reels..... Imagine the multiplayer sessions at '***.com'. How about the custom controllers people would build to play it.. no, maybe I don't want to think about this. ~Daxe -----------== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News ==---------- http://www.newsfeeds.com The Largest Usenet Servers in the World! ------== Over 73,000 Newsgroups - Including Dedicated Binaries Servers ==-----

It doesn't matter -- the bulls and riders today are nothing like the bulls and riders were in 1967. Better hoof compounds and the addition of downforce have killed the sport.

Yeah, but aren't the 1967 bulls way too hard to ride for the average consumer? I mean, no way can a bull just throw you off it's back in four seconds, my fathers cow doesn't that and it's pretty realistic.

I was just thinking of Stormtroopers and Dewbacks, but your idea sounds more fun to ahem....watch. <Checks for April 1st>...This _has_ to be "bull", if you'll pardon the pun. Is there a force-feedback cape that you get in order to play properly? Some *** to throw around the room for that authentic atmosphere? Bizarre, I would have thought in these PC times a animal cruelty sim would be a bit of a dodgy proposition. Cheers! John

Hey John, you're confusing US rodeo bull riding with Spanish bull fighting. In rodeo bull riding, the rider just has to sit on the back of a wild bull for as long as they can. I think 8 seconds is considered a complete ride. I suppose it's still debateable if rodeo bull riding is cruelty to animals, but from what I've seen, its usually the human that gets the brunt of the cruelty. <g> Tim

8 seconds? Sounds like the technology is fast approaching that will soon allow us to simulate sex on the computer, too . . . <G>
