GPL with FF?!?

Now that we know that FF support will be part of GPL 1.1, I have a simple question. According to Papy (as recently as an interview on AGN a couple months ago) the reason that FF wasn't part of GPL was that with the state of the technology, there was no way to do FF with a level of realism worthy of GPL. Now that FF will be included, what has changed? Have the FF wheels available now somehow evolved to a point where an implementation realistic enough to be worthy of the state of the art in realism that is GPL is now feasible? Or is this another example of Sierra's forcing Papy to compromise away their ideals? I sure hope its the former and that the FF implementation in GPL 1.1 will present a true enhancement to the realism and not just an attempt to make GPL more commercially viable. But its the latter, perhaps as Fran?ois Mnard stated in another thread, this marks the end of the Papy that we have known in the past. As far as I'm concerned, the very integrity of Papyrus and their commitment to realism is at stake.

heheh, becuase as people here say, rrevved, GPL was made as a sim... and not as a money making exercise hehehehehehehehhehe Charitable folks, those papy boys. Z. Please remove NOSPAM from my email address when replying.
I wanted to see how good we could make it with the current technology, so I implemented the back end, and Dave crunched the physics. It's better than we thought it would be, but still not what we would like to see (er, feel). The response we've gotten from our internal and external testers is that our use of FF is at least as good as, and generally appreciably better than, other FF enabled products. Ultimately, of course, y'all will be the judge of that. Randy

IMO (money making aside) GPL is more of a sim *with* FF than without. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, last time I drove a car, if I let go the wheel it didn't magically snap back to perfect center. As for the state of the technology, it does have a long way to go. But, some of the wheels out there now can get the job done. My FF wheel introduces no noticeable lag. I think any properly made serial or USB device should be able to produce latencies smaller than the human ability to perceive them. This wasn't true of the early FF joysticks, and even some of the current wheels have unacceptable lag. The two areas that need the most improvement on FF wheels is in 1) the total force produced, and 2) the smoothness of the power delivery system. -- Pat Dotson IMPACT Motorsports http://www.impactmotorsports.com/pd.html

If your FF is at least as good as ViperRacing's implementation, I'm happy. Being better than any other racing sim, or game, should be easy! Or did I miss the release or preview of any other "good" or "usefull" FF implementation? l8er ronny -- How to get rid of censorship in German game releases <http://www.gamesmania.com/german/maniac/freedom/freedom.htm> |\ _,,,---,,_ I want to die like my Grandfather, ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ in his sleep. |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' Not like the people in his car, '---''(_/--' `-'\_) screaming their heads off!

<flamesuit on> If I get you right: You just bought a wheel for GPL without FF.
