Questions for anyone with Midtown Madness?

8 posts by 6 people · 10 May 1999 - 12 May 1999

I have a couple questions for anyone that has the retail version, these are questions I have after playing a beta(legal, I won it from Next-Generation). It is fun, nothing like blasting through a crowded intersection at 130mph or forcing one of those annoying Beetles into the back of a bus, Muahahaha! Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I am worried it will get old rather quickly. 1. Is the '99 Mustang GT only a 4-speed in the full version like it is in beta(What is up with that)? Also is it very twitchy to drive compared to other cars? 2. Does the Beetle sound and run like it has a V-8? In the beta it will run with the Caddy and Mustang, yeah right! 3. Are the cops still Kamikaze and will only chase after you. Nothing more frustrating than passing the last checkpoint while leading only to get t-boned by a copper. 4. Biggest question, is there a replay mode? Thanks, Kyle
I haven't tried to use automatic for any of the cars, but there is an automatic trans checkbox of sorts on the car selection screen that seems to be available with any of the vehicles offered. The handling on any of the vehicles is pretty strange as far as I can tell. Part of this may be that the visual sensation doesn't always seem to agree with the speedo reading. The car sounds are kind of bizarre. I have never ridden in a new Beetle so I could say if it is accurate. It accelerates very slowly but will eventually build up some decent speed. The Caddy and the Mustang GT accelerate more quickly but don't seem to be able to generate a whole lot more top end. I haven't checked the speedo to confirm that, though, since in the game I am usually trying not to run into something else when I am going fast. Yeah, they are still there, but you can avoid them if you are crafty about it. It sure isn't EASY. Hmm..I don't remember!! I don't think so.. I am always so eager to get to the next race that I have never thought about it. ~daxe -----------== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News ==---------- http://www.newsfeeds.com The Largest Usenet Servers in the World! ------== Over 73,000 Newsgroups - Including Dedicated Binaries Servers ==-----

The New Beetle is a watercooled inline 4. Just like every other econo-shitbox on the market. <eg> A turbo version is in the works (called 2.0ti or something like that). Tim

I like the fact that the perspective isn't warped to rty to give you most of an impression of speed. It does make the apparent speed seem slower. Then I discovered the theater perspective!! Hit 'w' to get the wide field! Wow! It's better than having the car stop automatically (ala NFS 3). I want to be an outlaw!! I want to ram them back! I love it when they explode!!! Anyone beat Freeway Flyer? I heard you have to take the beefy F-350 out and ram your way through it. I keep killing my car. Loads of fun!! ==-----
Is that the wrong direction one? I found that driving in the left breakdown lane was a pretty good way to avoid the oncoming traffic.

The Turbo Beetle is out and available I work at a VW dealer in Phoenix. We sold our first 99 Beetle GLX just last week I believe. I think you maybe refering to the TDI ( turbo diesel) which is not out yet as far as i know Mike Lewis

I tried both directions and finally won it going the apparently 'correct' direction using the Mustang GT and driving 'carefully'. I earned the Mustang pursuit vehicle tonite, too. It tips over really easily !?!? dx -----------== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News ==---------- http://www.newsfeeds.com The Largest Usenet Servers in the World! ------== Over 73,000 Newsgroups - Including Dedicated Binaries Servers ==-----

The trick is to get a really fast start (and go straight for a couple blocks after the first left, when the others go right). You need to get ahead of the pack before you hit the alleys. Joe
