TM Sprint - got rid of the pedals!

10 posts by 5 people · 06 May 1999 - 08 May 1999

Upon reading some comments about the TM Sprint and using it dual-axis I tested something suggested in r.a.s. As all those who have tested this wheel will tell you that the pedals are really awful and on top they brake easily or become inaccurate (can you say on-off precision). The paddles on the side are great, accurate, easy to control and above all dual axis. The problem is that the Sprint Win98-drivers are only using them as digital buttons (what were they thinking, these things are much better than the pedals). But! I tried the NASCAR Pro wheel drivers included in the latest 1.3 driver package, it found my wheel. Calibration was crazy but the paddles definately replaced the pedals. Then I went to test GPL... works like a dream! Tested SCGT... works like a dream! Tested TOCA2... works like a dream! Now the TM Sprint has finally proper dual-axis analog brake/throttle that suits disabled persons as well. If you are still using your Sprint pedals, do as I did and get rid of them! Next I think I'll test TOCA1, N99, ICR2 for Windows and maybe F1RS if I can gather the strength to install that piece of (expletive deleted). Of course DOS games work just like normal since the hardware support has dual axid paddle as a default. So that covers ICR2 for DOS and N2. The only game I haven't got this working on yet is GP2, since it doesn't seem to accept dual-axis controls. Prove me wrong somebody.

I achieved the same by dumping the TM drivers comletely and calibrating as a 4 axis controller in game controllers. You can leave the pedals plugged in case you want a clutch pedal too. This works great in GPL as you have dual axis throttle and brake on the wheel paddles, plus you can use a foot pedal for clutch at the start of races etc. This setup works fine for GP2 as well, contrary to what you say. I run GP2 from windows, and with a bit of playing around in the controller setup it all works, clutch pedal and all! Neil

Funny that you should say this. I use the NASCAR Pro /w seperate axis drivers too and found them to work the best in GPL. No longer do I have to callibrate and assign keys every time I enter the game. I also use the paddles for acceleraion and breaking as seperate axis. But when I use the Pro divers the wheel gets out of shape in SCGT. It is turned all the way to the left, and the break seems to be on all the time resulting in an undrivable experience. So I have to switch to the Sprint to play SCGT and keep this swap technique to play both. Is there a callibration option in SCGT or does it callibrate automatically? **** Posted from RemarQ - http://www.remarq.com - Discussions Start Here (tm) ****
Am I getting this right? Are those "paddleshifters" analog? If so, how long is the travel(which is most important actually)? -~=Darek M=~- kirjoitti viestiss? ... (tm) ****
If you mean the demo, it doesn't support dual axis. The game should support it, guess you could try unplugging the pedals in which case the paddles will turn into a single axis analog control. I haven't had any problems with the demo myself.
Yes they are, with either single or dual axis control depending on whether the pedals are connected or not. It's pretty good, I can drive GPL comfortably with them (although longer races strain your hands a bit too much).

Darek; I have the same problem with some sims & I also use both the Nascar Pro & Sprint now! I have been driving myself "Crazier" then I was before I started on this problem axis-verses-calibration quest! Also many have sent great information {Thanx to r.a.s.}but thanks to Toni's posting it appears my problem quest is resolved! {{"O" Yea Thanx Toni!!}}Cheers 2 All... Thom_j. aka ^Fretts...
