Superbike Problems - Brands Hatch

6 posts by 3 people · 03 May 1999 - 09 May 1999

Has anyone had problems with SWC with the Brands Hatch track. I have two locations around the track where there is stuttering (rapid consecutive pauses). The remainder of the track, and indeed the all the other tracks are great, it is just these 2 locations (around turn 4 and just before going under the bridge just before the main straght). I have also sent of information on the problem to EA tech support but was curious if anyone else has experienced the same problems. The detail level has no effect on the stuttering. I will also take this oppourtunity to say that the game is absolutely amazing - just wish I could race at Brands Hatch! regards Andrew Brisbane, Australia

had the problem with my STB 1.52 TNT drivers. Haven't had the problem with my nVIDIA Detonator 1.2 drivers or any drivers for my Voodoo2 card.

I am using a Diamond Viper 330 (4mb version) with the latest drivers from Diamond. Should I use a more general nVIDIA set of drivers. Was the problem you had at the same locations on the Brands Hatch track, or was it at other locations/tracks? I think there is a lot to draw on the right at bend 4 (lot of camper vans and extra detail that is perhaps not needed!) and this could be causing the problems. It was where the campervans were. Also had problems at Monza where some of the trees overhang. The game would drop a couple of frames. Got a feeling it had something to do with the audio stream as well because it happened more often with the Honda than any other bike. However when I changed over to the MX300 the problem still occured. Not being a programmer I can only assume it has something to do with the amount of data being passed along the bus.

Had the same problem with Viper V330. None with TNT, obviously. Seems they haven't fully tested it with 4Mb Riva128 based cards. I'm not sure if AGP vs PCI is an issue... I tried several different driver versions (nVidia ref drivers, various versions of Diamond's) and tried tweaking graphics options (mip mapping etc.) with NVTweak but to no avail. If you examine closely the exact moment the slowdown begins, you'll notice that it's caused by the helicopter on the grassy knoll. The helicopter is visible from two parts of the track, thus the two separate slowdowns. It's a major annoyance since the helicopter is in no way relevant to the gameplay, you can't remove it by reducing graphics detail, and it effectively prevents Riva128 owners from racing in Brands Hatch (which in my opinion is one of the better tracks in SBK). A Big minus to EA. It's definitely a shame and even more so because performance-wise Riva128 based cards seem to do pretty well in SBK. To my surprise I also found that TNT's superior (compared to Riva128) image quality causes the graphics to look _much_ more cartoony. If I'd have to rank SBK's graphics on Riva128 alone I would consider them to be the most realistic I've seen in any racing game so far. Yes, it's a paradox - less quality, more realistic. But I still go for TNT because of the Brands syndrome. --- Antti Markus Peteri 15 miles. your dim light shines from so far away - Soul Asylum, Promises Broken

It occured on my TNT 2 until the new 1.73 drivers arrived last week. Since these drivers also work with the TNT i stuck that back in and the problem also went. Playing with a few benchmark programs the new drivers have a brilliantly fast fill rate compared to even the Detonator drivers. Problem with Brands hatch didnt happen with Voodoo 2 SLI or Voodoo 3. However I still get the occasional hiccup at Monza. I can only assume there is something weird with the 3D modeling.
