It goes without saying that the two feet driving technique is pre*** among
sim drivers.
However, i was wondering if there are people out there driving with one foot ?
Driving with right foot heel-and-toe myself, thus far i only know one other
person in the sim racing community who does alike....Eric Cote.
One-foot driving kind of takes the sense out of using seperate axis though :-)
So, is there anybody out there ?
anyone who's tried in vain ( to get better lap times using two feet )
anyone that feels the same
is there anybody trying to give it up and start again cause i can't let go of
one-foot driving ?
How do ya feel about that ?
Thanks in advance for any comments regarding this issue.

One-foot versus two-foot driving in sims
A heel-and-toe driver asked whether any sim racers drive with one foot. Many said they use one foot as in their road cars, others left-foot brake as modern F1 drivers do, and drivers with disabilities described using hand paddles for throttle and brake. Troubleshooting tips for Thrustmaster Sprint paddle spikes followed.

Automated summary.
I drive with 1 foot.
That's how I drive in my real car, so naturally it feels more normal
to drive like that in sims.

I'm
one hundred % sure that that the drivers of the era pressed the brakes and gas at
the same time. That is why we have a heel-toe technique, to be able to press the
throttle while braking (to change gears more effectively, and to adjust amount of
oversteer during turn-in), and I am pretty sure they pressed the brakes while
standing heavily on the throttle.
And in the turns where they didn't have to change, I think their left foot was all
over the place. I think that trailbraking was almost a must for the drivers in -67
to go really fast. I think I read somewhere that Jim Clarke was outstanding in the
fact that he braked further into the corner than anyone else, and how do you do
that effectively? Trailbraking!
I read from Taruffis book how to cope with the pedals, and he explains in detail
the different techniques for the different kind of pedal setups. Obviously with
trailbraking in mind.
I used to be a one foot sim racer, but I discovered that I became a little bit
faster with left foot braking, and WAAAAAY more consistent. When you have control
over the throttle and brake at the same time, you are in the optimum postition to
control the car. Take that fast left before the hairpin at Rouen, the only way to
go through there fast is trailbraking, and pretty heavily so!
No matter, left foot braking or not: Separate axis is a must, at least in GPL...

I know it is
very difficult for me so I haven't really tried to develope this ability
yet.

Well, Zanardi certinly doesn't hang about in go karts..and basically,
it's the same :-)

Same here, I drive with one foot.
The Logitech unit works very well for heel-toe action. I can't even imagine
driving with both feet, although I would probably get faster over time.
I'm using the Logitech WingMan FF -- using both feet. A nice feature with
these pedals is the foot rest. It's described in their advertising as the
'dead-pedal foot rest lets you keep your left foot near the breaks for fast
corners or emergency stops'. I like it for road courses that have long
straight sections (e.g. Laguna Seca).
I agree that these pedals do work well for heel-toe as well with just the
right amount of space between the gas and break. Prior to these pedals I
was using the CH pedals for sim-driving and always felt like I was in a toy
pedal car and were not the best design for heel-toe. On the other hand the
CH pedals provide a greater range of motion (and work great for
flight-sims).
Cheers,
Steve

but I believe you know this already from our correspondance.. ;0)
Its either a TM Nascar Sprint or CompUSA's {Now $29.00+tax} wheel.
Can't beat neither for the money. If you sim racers wanna a real challange;
race with gas/brake, shift-up/down, clutch & also steer with just 2 hands!
"look ma, no feet!" ;0)

Toni Ain't it fun? <g> Question though: I've had a chronic right paddle
problem! {It has been posted here several times!} I wondered; Does
your paddles in calibrate stay at a rock solid .1000 when you pull
the paddles all the way back? Mine does not & can't figure out why?
I've had many great ideas & etc from the nice folks here at ras. {u'all
know who you are <BG>} Plus I have even changed the right pot to
the left side and again I'm getting a flicker' {or as someone told me a
"spike"} from .1000 to the .900s. Do you get this?
Everytime it does this I can not get full gas & it is extremely obvious
at Spa on the straight at Masta when I usually top at 197-8mph and
it slows to the 180s.. I go back into Calibrate & there it is flickering
again. It Peaves me to no end now!!
Any all help will be appreciated form you Toni & others. Tia!!

Not with the paddles. The wheel however gives off strange spikes once
in a few seconds (mostly in *** steering maneuvers), it's like
clock smashes but the wheel just jumps to full right/left for one
frame then back. Of course this is very annoying since in GPL it puts
you to the wall, but the strangest thing is this doesn't happen in any
calibration routines or even in other games (SCGT demo, TOCA2 demo,
N99 & ICR2 work fine). I'd clean the pot but I'm not quite sure which
***to open since the whole gadget seems a bit plastic.
I'd say take it back and demand a new wheel.
I drive with one foot, use the other to hold down the pedal base.
To email me remove the "u"s

It's my right foot. I feel uncomfortable using two
feet because a two foot posture puts my feet too close together and I loose
steering leverage. So, I use only my right foot. I actually brake with my
big toe, and gas with my two little toe's, since I have six toes on my right
foot, it works well. :)

This certainly sounds like a dirty pot. What brand and model of wheel?
Hopefully someone can help explain how to open the unit.

TM Sprint, as was mentioned earlier in the thread. Guess I'll have to
crank the casing open and hope nothing vital pops out (I still
remember the time a friend of a friend tried to "fix" a Logitech
Wingman Extreme and ended up with a heap of springs and buttons on the
table).

The TM Sprint case for the wheel looks very similar to the
NASCAR/Formula Pro. There are alot of screws holding the unit together,
but I never had any problem with the NASCAR Pro when opening the unit to
clean the pot. Just don't be too rough with the wiring and you should
be okay.
