With the Coventry, in F3 trainer mode, I can't even break 2 minutes :-( I've got a reasonable wheel, split axes, etc, etc, but I just can't get any speed. I've tweaked the default set-up a bit, but it's not working very well. Anyone got any tips, should I watch replays, should I be getting it sideways, etc? Approximate performance is: minor feather of the accelerator into Turn 1, both Lesmos in second with a burst into third between them, and the Parabolica needs to be entered in first or it either doesn't turn in, or I lose the back end. TIA Ken

Some speed you might want to note for the F3 trainer at Monza are End of Front Straight: 133-137 Curva Grande Exit: 125 Lesmos 1: 70 Lesmos 2: 70-75 End of Back Straight: 133-137 Paribolica: 67 These are all based off my best with the F3 trainer there. The lap was a 1:55.xx so these are some descent guidelines to go by. Paribolica in First gear?? Im pretty sure i was using 2nd but id have to watch the replay again to be sure. As for loosing the back end....whats your brake bias??? Set it to far rear and youll loose the rear REAL easy. Chris

Ahh, is 1:55 good then? I thought a good lap in Monza in F1 was about 1:25, then add 5 - 10 secs per Formula (perhaps I read that as a general rule, but I suppose a power circuit like Monza means the lack of HP really makes a difference. I'll check these figures next time I lap, thanks. Is there a site somewhere with F2 & F3 records I can use as a benchmark? It's at about 55% or so - I think I'm still in the F1GP/F1RS/ICR mindset of stamping on the brakes and turning with still a bit of brake remaining. I also find getting the exact amount of throttle pressure is tricky, as again with slicks I'd coast into the apex, but the weight transfer to the back end works against this technique. It also doesn't help that to get over 20fps with my G200 I have to turn almost everything off, and the pit board texture doesn't work either. Ken
Whew! Anything under 1:30 at Monza with F1 is pretty hot, and if someone really does a 1:35 with an advanced trainer I'll throw away my copy of GPL. Definitely get a cheap V2 board and driving will be so much easier.

The Ferrari F3's at Monza can do 1:54's and 1:55's, the Brabham F3 can get into the 1:53's and I've seen a high 1:52 take pole at the last GMSS F3 league race at Monza. Grab yourself a Voodoo2 or Voodoo3, you need to get the fps up before your lap times will improve significantly. Trips

1:35 in an AT should be no problem for the right car and driver combination. My best is a 1:36.51 in the Brab and I'm a long way from being the right driver. If you want to compare F2 times to ours check us out Formula Advanced Trainer Simulation Association(FATSO) at http://people2.mw.mediaone.net/gmclachl/index.htm

Your'e doing fine. Get a faster cpu so the fps stays over 30, it really helps a lot. It sounds like you need to finesse the car some more and that will come with practice. JM

Hi Ken, the F3 cars require a completely different approach to that of the F2/F1 cars.. Firstly, because of their low power to weight ratio they are inheritantly loose in the back end. For any new comers to the F3 cars, i strongly suggest going with the Ferrari as it has the best and most forgiving handling, with very good pickup and a reasonable top end of all the F3 cars. With the F3's Ken, try making the rear end a bit softer than the front end, that also applies to the stabilizer bars, springs and dampers. Also keeping the brake bias at around the 52 to 55 mark will improve braking distances dramatically in the F3's. Also at Monza, you will get more top speed with a taller gear ratio in 4th than the default. Anothe thing with Monza as well, try and take the 1st Lesmo in 2nd gear and change up to 3rd gear before the 2nd Lesmo and hold 3rd gear through the 2nd Lesmo. It is quicker that way than changing down to 2nd. Bump up the tire pressures a bit too Ken, to about 22-23 all round. If you want more in depth info on the F3's setup characteristics, drop me a line. PS. The best times at Monza in the F3 cars are in the: 1:52.*** bracket, though if you can break into the 53's, you will be on the podium if you keep it together.. Cheers, Ron

Ok Tony, you better throw it this way.. :)) My best time in the F2 cars at Monza is 1:35.98 <G> I know it is only just into the 35 bracket, but you did say 35's in the advanced trainer. that is the F2 cars.... :) Let me know when you are going to throw it Toni and i will try to catch it and return it to you... <G> Cheers, Ron

I've had three or four people suggest that, so I popped down to the shops today and picked up a Magic3D II - 12Mb Voodoo 2 - for 10,290 yen ($85 or 54) and now I'm getting twice the frame rate! Thanks for the tips everyone - I'll get under 2 minutes tonight with a bit of luck! Ken
