Whew.. Gt3 in SCGT is tough!

9 posts by 6 people · 29 Apr 1999 - 07 May 1999

Damn, no matter what anyone says, I TOO am hooked on SCGT! Hell, I haven't touched the TOCA2 Demo since I got SCGT, and I LOVE TOCA (hey, it has the Audi A4 like I race too!). Trouble is, I just could not wait to get into the GT1 cars, so I used the cheat. After that, it is VERY hard to go back to my original career mode. Oh, and I just LOVED your story! Tell me more about some other close races :) <SNIP>

Just got done racing Desert Speedway in SCGT at GT3 level. I finished the GTQ level placing first in all 3 events. I was thinking "Man, this sim is too easy". I was in for a suprise. When I started my career in GTQ level I bought the 1st Porsche (The white one with red flames) and added $20,000 worth of upgrades. When I won the GTQ division I was awarded $227,000. I was going to buy a GT3 class car but when I looked at the HP and torque for my modifed Porsche I saw it execelled the stock GT3 cars. SO I spent $220,000 upgrading my Porsche,. The first race of the GT3 season was at Desert Speedway with 11 AI drivers and 25 minutes. I figured my fuel and tires would last for 15 minutes so I knew I would need to pit. Started out I blew into from 12th to 5th at the start. That bozo in the #28 Porsche spun and caused a massive pile-up at the start (Sounds like multi-player GPL :) I got lucky and zoomed by him. All the while I'm thinking "Crap, this is going to be a peice of cake" Was I wrong? You betcha. I was humming along right on the 4th place tail when low and behold this nut behind me pulls and Earnhardt on my rear.. I get loose.. do a wild spin and end up looking at my ass. Slamm it forward come outta the grass and start screming through the turns.. man, Desert Speedway is an awesome track. The slide and swerve type of turns if you know what I mean. After about 10 minutes I'm in 3rd trying my damnest to catch the 2nd place car. Yes they do slow down more than me in the turns, but.. hee hee.. but they know HOW to slow down.. Every time I thought I was going to blow his doors off in a turn he would turn into my driving line causing me to back off.. Finally around 13 minutes into the race I'm on his bumper.. Guess what friends.. tire wear IS modeled. I barley taped his bumper then it felt like my whole car turned into ice. I went rocketing into the sand.. got my car side ways.. fought with the wheel trying to pump the gas to get me straight.. KA-BLAMM... I smack a wall on the drivers side door. Bone jarring and my car goes up on two wheels.. Totters....Then slaps back down.. Zoom zoom zoom.. I see cars laughing at me as they eat up position. Go go go.. I get back in line.. In 10th.. I start eating back through the slower guys.. Then I look at my fuel.. I have to pit with 2 laps or I'm gonna be pushing the car back to the pits.. Next lap, I fly into the pits, only add 10 gallons of gas, no damage fix.. full tires. 10 second pit.. I get back and I'm in 7th... With 3 minutes left to go I'm thinking.. WHAT ?? They dont pit? I was fuming.. I was mad.. I was.... Oh cool.. there pitting.. 6th... 5th......4th..3rd... In less than half a lap I'm snuggled up behind Mr. Earnhardt that had spun me earlier... Pay back is hell buddy.... Whoo hahahhaha As we get to the first chicanes (Spelling?) I make my move... I hear a nice satisfying crunch as he bounces into some tires.. I see number #1 in front.. The white flag is out... Coming down the first straight away.. I beat him into the turn.. Yeehaw... I'm in 1st with half a lap left... 2 turns left... 2nd place is trying to get around me.. left side.. right side... trying to slip through.. I'm paying too much attention to the mirror.. I look in front of me just in time to see.... A car spinning in front of me.. WTF?? SHiiiii./ SMACK....... A lapper must have got over anxious... I hear wild laughter as 2nd place becomes 1st.. again... I'm on him.. I can see the finish... Come on come on.. catch him... He wins by about 2 car lengths,,, I pull my plasterd hand of the joystick.... Wheew.. What a race.... Hey, I won $15,000 for my troubles :)

Uh what? I bought the stock GT3 Porsche with some upgrades after dominating the season in GTQ (everyone should be able to)....and had no problems with Desert Speedway (although I absolutely love the flexible pole on the side of the tracks). The track is fairly easy and the Porsche can really be thrown around unless you get its tail out then its basically unrecoverable (is this true to life? on a rear-engined Porsche? Seems kinda canned to some degree, but I know from reading many a car mag that the street version always had a *** tendency to oversteer because of the engine*** beyond the transaxle). Lime Rock was pretty easy too, however never race and watch Friends at the same time...Jennifer Aniston tends to cause distractions...however I found myself pitting 3 times for fuel in a 25 minute race or maybe it was 30, forget which, but the AI only pitted twice...I know that damn BMW M3 only pitted twice. Haven't looked but to the BMWs carry more fuel? If not they certainly get better gas mileage. Thinking about it last night I realized that playing the driver AND crewchief, that at the very least N2/ICR2 type "F#" screens were really a necessity...i.e. F3 for fuel mileage, F4 for tire temps (not modeled), F5 for tire wear...but it'd be nice to see each tire and be able to change only the ones you wanted to....

We can all hope Nascar 3 will model winnings as well as points!! Doubtful, but hopeful! "Gunner"
Actually, I'm running at GT3 Porsche in the GT2 class. Granted, its nearly maxed out..but nonetheless....I wish I had my GTQ season saved and I would have tried GT3 and GT2 with the GTQ Porsche, oh well. :) Cash shortage? Yeah, going from GTQ to GT2 with only three races in GTQ the only way to get any amount of cash is to win all three. After that the cash piles up. The GT3 Porsche is now worth like $293,000 and I've got over $550,000 in the bank 3 races into the GT2 season. Be nice to have enough to both buy a Callways Vette and a GT1 Porsche. :)

It is possible to win a GT2 season in a GTQ car. I set the wrong car by accident. OOPPPSSS!!! But I'll tell ya, it aint fun ;-) You have to work your but off. (hint: you want longer races)

says... I bought a GT3 (Saleen Mustang) after GTQ but decided to keep the GT3 for GT2 and so far I'm able to SMOKE the puter in GT2. First racing game I've ever enjoyed going door to door & bumper to bumper (and bumper to door ...... hehehe) with the AI. Bob
