Question on MGPRS2 and "cheat"

8 posts by 7 people · 26 Apr 1999 - 28 Apr 1999

I am getting a little frustrated with MGPRS2 and a simple question that no one seems to want to help me out. The other day, I was racing online with MGPRS2 and the game service, and someone accused of being a "cheat". I did not exactly know what he( or she ) was referring to. I have asked several times in the chat room of the game service, what "cheat" means, but no one answers. Is there a way to alter the car to improve performance with a computer trick vis a vis other online players? some players nickname have in their label "cheat". What does this mean? Thanks, Gostal

Cheat is an English word that means to do something "against the law". Or as cheating on your wife (having relations with another women). In the case of racing simulators, cheating means altering the game to suit yourself and give yourself an advantage over the others. Some cheats are made in the game. Many arcade titles have this kind of cheats (more powerful cars, bonus tracks, etc..). You normally need to enter a code to do so. In other case, people will hack or modify certain files to cheat. For online racing, it is considered imm***and unsportsmanship to cheat. You will have no respect by the other drivers if you do so. Online racing services have some good anti-cheating software. The NROS is anti-cheat because of a great checksum program made by a Papyrus employee. Others like GPL are tight on the cheating, but I can tell you it's possible unfortunately. As for MGPRS2, some people it seems discovered a failure in the program (which demonstrate the crapiness of Ubisoft's online multiplayer racing). -- Heh -- Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard/Nas-Frank> -- NROS Nascar sanctioned Guide http://www.nros.com/ -- SimRacing Online http://www.simracing.com/ -- Official mentally retarded guy of r.a.s. -- May the Downforce be with you... The only thing I can think of is the following: maybe you were using some of the driving aids (such as traction control and abs brakes). Those can make a lot of difference when you play vs someone who doesn,t use them. In that case, I don't see why the person would complain... you can start a session without those aids (in the option menu for the session). I played this game online a few months ago, and it's not worth the effort. The oppenents' car are always on the ideal racing line, irrespective of the fact that the other driver might not be there in reality (ie on his computer, his car is not at the same spot on the track as where you see it on your pc). Opponent speeds are not consistent. One second, he looks like he's stopped, the other he's going to warp speed. If you like online racing, better stick to GPL and NROS. Philster Philster
That's wrong. There is a power editor available and the "cheat" word indicates someone has adjusted the cars power rating. At least people can get through a race without being disconnected for breathing too hard. David G Fisher

Please...get your facts straight. There's a perfomance editor available that allows you to change the power values for each team up to match the best team's values. Many people who wants to drive another car than, say a Williams use it, otherwise they would be in a disadvantage. Gameservice however does not know this and is labeling everyone with 'cheat' who did so. Actually this will also happen to players who did not alter their performance but choosed to join a session with someone who did. Nothing to worry about. --Tel

I would define cheating as follows: Making internal changes at the program to achieve an advantage. Also using unplanned options (like low-riding or trail-riding in GPL) is seen as cheating, even if the programm-code wasn't changed at all. Jens BTW: Where is MGPRS2-online racing? I must disagree. I can't see "low-rider" setups as cheating. There's always some people whining about the riding height, that happened already in GP2. If you people can't control that car with extremely stiff suspension, don't call others cheaters, call yourselfs "not talented". in RL F1 teams will do everything that is allowed by options/rules to find more speed AND they use the lowest possible riding height also in RL, just like GPL drivers... When you can setup low riding height in the games own options, I really can't see that as cheating. In my opinion, cheating is changing the original code or separate program which will help you in your gameplay and I haven't seen cheating in GPL yet, but believe me that do happen a lot in Quake for example.
