When using the automatic gearbox in GPL, the rev meter goes right up
to the limit, right? But when using a manual gearbox, is it best to do
this too, or is it quicker to change into a higher gear just slightly
before the maximum limit is reached?
I assume that the latter will give the car more reliability, but I
need to know about speed for the faster lap times...
I have experimented a bit with this, I have found no speed difference
whatsoever by changing a bit before the red mark. Your gearing is way more
important than using the last 400 revs of your engine. Besides, your
engine will last when you do so, even the Ford of the Lotus...
If you're talking about that perfect hotlap setting a new world record,
you might consider using the engine up to the redmark, I'd say you might
scratch off max a tenth using the upper 400 revs. That tenth isn't worth
it when you're racing though, nothing is as frustrating as engine
failures...

The auto gears in GPL go nowhere near the limit. You will be
penalised heavily for using them. The gearchange is a lot slower as well.

I love the engine failures in GPL!
When you've damaged the engine slightly and the power is begining to
reduce, your head the engine whining for more, but just can't hack it.
Beautiful!

Not each engine has its best output at max rpm.
You have to use the rpm-range between highest hp's and highest torque.
BTW: I have no idea, what it is in numbers.
