USB with wheels - what's the advantage?

Hi all, I'm proud owner of a Logitech FF wheel. After trying at serial AND USB I cannot see any difference. Isn't there any? Jens --------------------------------------------- Remove "NOSPAM" before using my email-address
Yes, lower over head for the USB connection as opposed to the serial. Less resource usage is always better, especially when it comes to GPL. :) I'd suggest personally upgrading the Logitech software to version 3.20 beta and if you don't like the pedals its a pretty easy upgrade to add either T2 or CHPedals to the unit, which I found to make it a better driving environment.

I'm using the serial bus. I switched back to Win95 after installing 98 and seeing a perceptible performance loss -- not in games as much as running the OS and other programs. It felt sluggish compared to 95. The deciding factor for me is that while there exists a difference in performance in both cases, the difference in OS choice was a visible one, while the difference in bus choice I could not see. That said, usb is easier to work with, being hot-pluggable. But since my wheel is perpetually mounted on my desk <G>, that's not a big issue for me. Brett

I've been considering that combo, but thought there might be a problem plugging a USB wheel into non-USB pedals. I've heard CH Products is coming out with USB pedals this summer and thought I'd wait. I must have a misunderstanding. Tom
...but neither version of the Logi has calibration problems due to the filtering process they use. Did you get jitters on serial but not USB...or the other way around? Marc.

misunderstanding. You really can't plug in pedals into the LWFF. What you have to do is open the pedal case and pull the wires off the pots and replace the wires on the appropriate pots inputs on your pedals of choice. There was a good detailed desc of doing this on gpl.gamestats.com/vroc

Never used the serial ... but had many problems with standard gameport connections with many devices over the years. I suppose serial is probably better than the gameport though. Joe
