Motorsims confirms SCCA sim work

A poster pointed to an SCCA Sports Car magazine article on the club's partnership with Motorsport Simulations. Motorsims vehicle dynamics engineer Matthew Jessick said an SCCA vice president had visited to help line up technical sources for their first SCCA sim, and design director Mark S. Miller declined to say more ahead of E3. Posters hoped for club classes, Can-Am cars and even a full SCCA Runoffs simulation.

Yes I heard about that. I'm really looking forward to the game since my dad races one of the classes that will probably be made! And I will be racing in that same class next year! Adam

We are e***d about working with the SCCA too. Dennis Dean (an SCCA Vice President) was here this week for meetings and stayed over an extra day to give us background and start lining up technical sources for our first SCCA sim. > Yes I heard about that. Matthew, I would like to wish you well with the production of an SCCA sim. Im a former SCCA racer whos home track was Watkins Glen. I raced mostly Spec Racers (Was Sports Renault <G>) and Sports 2000 but had a little experience with GT1. I hope to one day return to racing. Im an old man at 28 and hope my wife will tolerate my return to racing by the time Im 35 ;) I look forward to hearing more about the sim as you progress with its development. Again... best of luck! Does this mean there is a chance that we might see a Can-Am sim sometime in the future? -don
DAVID 11 Apr 1999#461495
Well it sounds like we may be able to drive a Ferrari 333sp or a Riley and Scott chassis some time in the future. Also we may be able to drive some unknown cars like bobsys AMACs and other small bore Sports Racers. I think that is kinda neat since I have spend a lot of time around these neat little machines. This sounds great! I use some of the current racing sims to refresh my memory before I go to a track for an SCCA event such as Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, however these are only the tracks that are in the sims with Pro racing cars. It would be great to race on the smaller club racing tracks and cars that I am more use to driving such as D Sport Racer. http://insideracingtechnology.com/dsr1.htm Most SCCA races are with several classes mixed together in one group. Will all the classes be in the sim and will they be in separate groups or mixed together? Lutrell DSR74 :-)

ROFL Especially in Solo. Ive seen EVERYTHING race in solo. Although I never ran in a solo event or had much interest in solo racing, it gives alot of people the chance to get out there and experience high performance driving. Scott PA-Scott G.T.S. No No NO! Not plain ordinary Ferrari's or Can Am cars... Imagine if you will, An SCCA runoff sim. a bazillion classes of cars all racing at Mid Ohio. Just imagine your day spent with a howling pack of 40-50 NEONS! Sure sure you can drool over your Riley and Scott's but imagine...one track. One weekend of racing...and 40-50 NEONS! dave henrie

Well that would be wild. 40 Neons all howling around a track bump drafting and squeezing eachother for position. Well the only problem i could see with this is all the guys complaining about the accidents in GPL. well in showroom stock it is almost a fact of life you get bumped around a bit during a race. Dave

Solo ll is a very different animal. It is kinda like single car qualifing without ever practising the track. You get to walk the course, then get in your car and push it to the limit and hold there for the entire course. Wins are measured int hundreths of a second, and anyone winning by a second is in another time zone. If you ever see a guy who can really make a car run well in Solo ll let him try a real race track. What you will see is a guy who can really hold car on the edge a whole lap and run that lap after lap. Most really fast Solo ll guys I have seen do very well in road racing. Jeff Altenburg is on who ran Solo ll for years and after I think one season in Road Racing won SSA at the SCCA national runoffs. I guess its true that Solo ll drivers go in deeper and come out harder, of corners that is. Dave

Yeah I was there actaully trying to my owner driver of the Formula Atlantic to pick up the pace a bit so he would qualify. The Renault Cup and Volkswagen Cup series were very close competitive racing that brought us racers like the Archer Brothers. That and you would usually someone really wadd a car up in those races since passing was very much a forced affair. I remember seeing a Volkswagen Cup race at Laguna Seca, before they changed the track that someone was trying to make a pass in what was called turn two. well when the pass was finished several cars were on their tops and most cars had been banged up a bit. Even tho it was slow cars racing it was great to watch. Dave
Mixed together. Please, please, please..

Make that 40 screaming Miata's and you have a deal. :) Motorsims, please, please do a great job on these titles. I have been hoping for SCCA sims since hearing about SportsCarGT and TransAmRacing, and it looks like you guys got all the licensing. I would love to see SCCA SOLO and SOLO II titles released. Of course these would come with Neons and Miatas. Folks may not respect these cars, but they make a driver out of you. When you only have 140hp, you can't afford to lose speed by getting sloppy in the corners. Smooth and precise driving is required to be fast in these cars. A year spent competing in a Miata would make a driver from any other class faster because they will no longer use horsepower to compensate for lack of ability. I think most sim racers are getting tired of going around in circles. I have followed NASCAR for many years, and am getting bored with the whole media circus and primadona drivers. Formula 1 is pretty much as bad. SCCA is a great answer to all of these. Exciting road courses with left AND RIGHT turns on every course, not just one or two. And if the bug gets ya bad enough, you can go racing locally at a real SCCA event for very little mullah. With SOLO events you don't even have to rub fenders with anyone in the corner. If you wipe out, you run over a traffic cone or two, not hit a wall. I can't wait until your first title. -- Eric & "Brandy" 95M Merlot of course 58,000 miles and almost as many rock chips Gateway Miata Club

Well, One of the Archer Brothers ran Lemans for Chyrsler this year. On a YEars Budget to run Formula Atlantic I am not usre what the cost is now and back in the early 80s I was just working on the car not doing any money gathering. I would think tho for a fast and good SCCA club racing season in a FA car would be less then a 100 grand including runoffs. Membership is around 50 to 60 bucks a year. With this you get the SportCar magizine from the SCCA too and a lot of insurance converage when you are at SCCA events. I think its worth it.
