|One of my friends also just got a Diamond Stealth Voodoo 3 (?) He said something |about it being uncompatible with Glide. Pretty rediculous. I hope it's |something that is rectified soon, because I was planning on upgrading in the |near future. |- - - - - |John After reading www.anandtech.com about the voodoo3 review, I'm underwhelmed and will save my money for the TNT2. That at least OUGHT to work. Mikey

Below is a reply to a question I just posted to the 3dfx voodoo 3 newsgroup asking if GPL worked with the new Voodoo 3 card, murchman was kind enough to reply very quickly with the following info:- No it doesn't work with GPL. with the voodoo2 you would have to put the glide 2.43 file in the GPL directory to get it to work. Well with the V3 you have to remove it, then the game will come up but the textures will go very out of place making the game unplayable! Looks like my V2 is going back in as most game I own besides shooters will not work with the V3!

Sounds like he doesnt know what card he bought. Voodoo3s are only being made by STB. No one else will make the Voodoo3. If it's a Stealth, it could be the Stealth II s220 which is Rendition based and works beautifully with GPL If its a Stealth G460 then its Intel i740 based and a very avergae card for anything. -- Nathan Wong http://www.nectar.com.au/~alfacors Alfa Romeo - Super Touring - Club Cars http://fullspeed.to/astc Australian Super Touring Championship News and Information

I'm quite sure this is the case too. The V3's just hit the streets TODAY, and are only made by STB. And even if it was a Diamond 3dfx-based card, it'd be a Monster something, not Stealth. Either he should try to run it in Rendition mode in case it's a S220, or he's outta luck. -- Ken's Sig 2.01 "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. You have to do a bit of a workaround for the V3 too, but it seems to work - look for a post of mine "GPL and Voodoo3 FIX!!" for details. -- Ken's Sig 2.01 "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Diamond stealth voodoo 3? No such card. Diamond dosn't sell a V3 card. The old Diamond stealth 2 used the rendition chip. They have another stelth that used the intel chip and one that uses an S3 chip. But no voodoo in the stealth line up.
No, but it should run the OpenGL version better than the TNT. You are better off getting 2 Voodoo2 and running them in SLI mode. They perform better than a Voodoo3 2000 or 3000. If you plan on doing any other *** outside of GPL, then the TNT2 is definitely a much better buy by a very big margin.
It's not ridiculous, just business...(nobody can keep Glide 2.5x forever). Who do we expect to rectify it? Sierra/Papy? 3Dfx? This scenario is played out every time there's a new release of DirectX or graphics hardware. Kyle

On Wed, 7 Apr 1999 02:44:02 +0100, "Ravey" From what I have seen you simply set "Limit Textures to 2meg" in the V2 Control Panel. G. Patricks

Could be a different card, I have no idea if he's right or not. I'm not really up on hardware until it becomes buying time. ;) - - - - - John
