This package includes the following: 1. A pretty cool looking box 2. A jewel case to use with demo cd's 3. Some advertising sheets that can help start the fireplace if need be. 4. A dual purpose CD that doubles as a drink coaster. (WOW EA is on the ball.) BUT WAIT THERES MORE! If you act now I'll enclose a manual that tells you what the game should be able to do, PLUS i'll even through in "The rules of Frisbee Golf", so that you can actually get some entertainment out of this game. I feel a little better now. :) hehe
Where do I sign up:-)

Just to enter my $1.40 about NASCAR Revolution... I bought the sim yesterday, took it back the same day. This has got to be the worst NASCAR "sim" I have ever seen. Get this, when the cars get close guess what happens? The sim slows down... seriously.. I got into a pack of about 6 cars and instead of just getting lower FPS the game actually slowed down. It appeared as if I was moving about 2 miles an hour. Player Options: I am a living breathing person.. But uh. not in this game.... You HAVE to select a licensed driver. You can not be yourself. Multi-player.. What a joke NO Internet play what so ever.. TCP/IP... Did you guys at EA forget what that is.. Lemme guess you geared this game for all those hard working people in an office so they can play it on there LAN right? Controllers: &%*$(*&#$ Total garbage.. I have a CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, and Pedals.. but I have to lie to this game for me to use them. I have to actually go into Windows controllers and set my joystick up as a 2 axes, 2 button stick to have any controller control in the game. And every time I would exit out and restart the game i would have to recalibrate my stick because NASCAR Revolution would forget that I had one. The damage model.. Let's see, I slam into a wall at 190 mph and all that happens is my wheels don't spin? Your kidding right? My car should be a smoldering heap. In-car view: Am I riding a monster truck? The in-car view slows everything down, you lose a usable gear box, speedometer, and all other useful info.. The only tactical feed back you get is the gears on the dashboard, which have no real purpose. Views: Well, the first thing that will tip you off that this is not a sim but rather a "doom" type game is every time you race it gives you the "I am 8 years old and want to race from behind my car" view. The camera views for replays are just a useless.. You can barely make out the action, can not pan around the views either. Artificial Intelligence: I set driver AI at 100% and all other settings at 100%. Jumped straight to race without qualifying which means I started 43rd. By the 3rd lap I was in 20th position... Yeah, you sure that everyday. And the AI drivers crash about every 4th lap.... Oh, and when they crash, they don't just crash then stop and wait for a tow truck... The slowly drive around the track to the pits... Blow an engine? No problem.. just wipe out every car screaming down the track.. then when they all pit slowly drive around the track and lap them one time (Yes with a blown engine and no tires).. After you lap them once, pit. End race.. You won... Whoo hooo... That's right, your car never stops running, unless you flip the car and land on your roof.. as long as the wheels land on the pavement, you can still drive. Sound: Ohhh ohh Staccato engine sound.. Would someone tell me what the big deal is? I have been to real races.. Sorry but NASCAR engines sound a lot meaner than that. Your spotter sounds like trailer trash and the announcers have what a 10 word vocabulary... I was on my first lap, had just banged the wall and bozo says, " He is doing really well this race, its been a long hard day of racing"... Ok.... Not to mention the AI takes over if you: A) Pit B) A yellow Flag C) Start of the Race D) Get black flagged And the AI control will slam you into a wreck when under caution. Is EA afraid of us that want a "hard-core" race sim yet we can't even do a pace lap or caution lap on our own? Replays: Who's bonehead idea was it to only allow a lap or two of racing in the replay? I have 64 megs of ram, funny how in NASCAR 99 I can race a 500 lap race and play the whole thing back.. Not in NASCAR Revolution... one or 2 laps at best... And if you are racing and coming up on the finish line, you had better stop the sim and save the replay because once the car drives across the finish line there is no way to get to the replay. There was one good thing about NASCAR Revolution... I bought it at EBX so I could take it back and get my money back. On a scale of 1 to 10? -1 -- -Gunslinger-

HOW?! Even when I run an 87-lap race I usually only get the last 50 or so laps. Bums me out, too.

Gunslinger, I've seen your posts on the flight.sim NG, so I know you're intelligent, but SURELY you read the posts about NasRev before you bought it??!! Your review here makes you sound surprised! Reviews like yours are what's keeping me from even TRYING IT! Hell, Circuit City had it for $17.99 the other day and I passed!! "Gunner"

Not in NASCAR > HOW?! Even when I run an 87-lap race I usually only get the >last 50 or so laps. Bums me out, too. You have to change a setting in the nr1999.ini file. It is detailed in the readme.txt Here is the part in the ini: ; By default, the windows executables allocate 5 megabytes of virtual ; memory for saving replays. You may want to allocate more (or less) ; virtual memory. If you allocate more memory for replay, you will be ; able to save longer replays. However, you may see some performance ; degradation or possibly even a system crash if you specify more ; virtual memory than your system is able to provide. REPLAYLEN 28000 See the REPLAYLEN 28000? The 28000 means 28 megs of VIRTUAL (not system) memory will be used to store the replay. I have a 500 meg permanent swap file. I made a rave at Bristol, for 500 laps, I set my REPLAYLEN to 128000 ( 128 megs) and it recorded the whole race. be warned, that replay file will take a few minutes to decompress. But what you can do is go through the race and cut the boring parts out... just saving cool passes and my favorite, crashes. Just don't set it higher than your virtual memory swap file or it will start using..yikes... system RAM... Well... I also read the reviews about Team Apache, Flanker 1.0 and WW2 Fighters, and in my book they were all wrong. It takes all kinds. Basically what sold me was the demo.. The demo didn't do those speed-up or speed down problems (my biggest gripe) because they cunningly limited the field of cars, graphic settings, and didn't give you the options like strength settings in the demo. The demo is misleading. To be honest I listen to people like you, not commercial game sites. I believe most of the newsgroupies over reviewers any day. That's why i posted the info about Nascar Rev.. because I hadn't seen any other reviews on the newsgroups about it and don;t want some one else to be burned. Well, if you love arcade-sit-behind-the-car and ohh at the pretty graphics then you "might" like it, otherwise it is total garbage. -- -Gunslinger-

Thank you VERY much for the info! I have a bad habit of not digging deep enough into the readme.txt files and missing those kinds of "tweaks." I agree. I like FA (don't laugh), and WW2F. I, too, thought the demo meant the full version would be promising. Every once in a while I think about getting it "just to make SURE." But when the computer crashes you while under its control during a yellow and all those slo-mo times and I guess I'll wait. I would HOPE that a patch might fix SOME of the problems, but they seem so glaring, so obvious, and SO pervasive I can't IMAGINE it's possible the QA guys wouldn't've run into 'em. Makes me worry about their support for it. I try to blend a bunch of 'em together to try to get the "Big Picture" of a game to see if it's what *I* would likely like or not. I've read quite a few of 'em - 'specially when it first came out. Live 'n' learn, huh? I certainly liked the "bumper-cam" view in the demo! >-- >-Gunslinger- Thanks. "Gunner"

One small mistake I made.. 128000 is NOT 128 megs, its only 128k Sorry.. For 128 megs you would need to set it to 12800000 Notice the two extra zeros... So 1 meg would be 100000. So if you wanted 100 megs of virtual space to be used you would put 10000000 Sorry for any confusion that may have caused. -- -Gunslinger-
Actually, you were right the first time. :) 128000 = 128 meg 1000 = 1 meg 100000 = 100 meg "But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

Yeah... Wish we had one of these in Northern ***ia... Unfortunately, there is a Best Buy right near my house, and they don't take back software. CompUSA doesn't take _anything_ back any more without charging a 15% restocking fee, and they don't take back software for refunds at all. Unless it is defective, in which they will exchange it for like title. This is part of their "customer service" enhancement. We have enough laws already, but one more to finally protect the _consumer_ against software crimes like this would be nice. I think the ability to hide behind a shrink-wrap license is something that needs to end. -Larry > There was one good thing about NASCAR Revolution... > I bought it at EBX so I could take it back and get my money back. > On a scale of 1 to 10? -1

As a computer reseller myself I understand their problem with taking back software: our distributors won't take it back from US when it's opened. I absolutely agree with this. Personally there should also be some way to sue EA for false advertising. My understanding is that there's NOTHING about this game that resembles the hype on the box. The ONLY way I could imagine these problems slipped thru is due to ABSOLUTE and TOTAL ineptitude on behalf of the production team. There's NO WAY they didn't know these problems existed!! I would HOPE that a couple of patches might fix it, but I don't think it's EA's habit to patch anything. "Gunner"

The problem I have with it is this. When you buy, at much higher prices, from places like CompUSA, you expect certain added benifits. The benifits are going away, but the prices are staying the same. I fully understand no returns (unless defective) from a mail order house that is selling at 2% over dealer cost. But, CompUSA is commanding _much_ higher margins, and there should be added benifits for spending the extra money. The ability to return things is the main reason I would, in a previous life, lose a sale to CUSA or MicroCenter, even though we sometimes had the lower price. Especially if they had a pent-up case of Buyers Remorse before they ever even bought the thing :)
