Hi ..
i'm a newbie ..
i'm driving a COV at GLEN and my best time is 1.09xx .. how's this
compared to you guys??
thanks.
I myself am down to 1:08.79 so far, but Alison Hine lists her best as
a 1:07.5x so it should be possible (I'm assuming you're using her
setups?).

After 4 months and 1 league season my best at the Glen in a
Covington/Cooper is 1:07:12. I'm sure faster is possible, but I'm tired
of thrashing the Cov/Cooper.

ps: I'm thrashing the Eagle now : )

I was running 1:09's with my gamepad, now that I got a wheel, I'm
starting at about 1:20 and slowly trying to chop it down :(
see you in a couple weeks,

coventry setup, I managed a 1:07.74. However, at all other tracks I prefer
the murasama with hine's setups. I still haven't beat 1:07 at the glen with
the murasama, I run low 1:08's.

Mid 1:07's should be a reasonable race pace to aim for......for us mortals
at least

But you're right, the Coventry really can
take some thrashing around. It's pure joy steaming into the fast
corners at Spa and letting the rear end get loose then just at the
last moment throw it back and clear the corner in a smooth 4-wheel
drift.
Also one of my favorites.

If you're not using Alison Hine's setup take a look at it. It's very
stable and will help you learn how to take each part of the track. You
should be able to run 1m07's fairly easily after a while.
I use this setup as a basis but have tweaked the gears slightly and
given it a better front end. My best ever is 1m05.7 but I believe the
record is somewhere around 1m05.2.

My best with Alison's setup is a 1:06:12.Her setups are made for
stability and so they tend towards ubdersteer.Oversteer equals fast
but its very hard to handle an oversteering car.But what do we mean
when we say an oversteering car?Alot of the way a car handles is due
to driver input.Heres what I mean.First time tried the default Lotus
setup for the ring I felt it understeered heavily.Lately though I have
been really practicing trailbraking since all the top laps are done
with heavily oversteering cars. When I went back to the Ring lastnight
to work on trailbraking their I found the default setup oversteers
much more then I thought. When starting to learn how to race you should
not attempt trail braking since this uis an advanced skill.Your turns
should be done on power. This way you can take weight off the fronts
and cause unsdersteer and then just feather the throttle to keep the
car where you want.
When you start to master that you should move on to trailbraking and
learn this skill well since it lets you go fast. The hard thing about
trail braking is the lack of good feedback that GPL gives. If you watch
the top hotlaps youll notice the steering wheel flinging wildy
about. This is because the driver cant really feel how much grip they
hve at the rear tires.I posted about using a chair such as a
Thunderseat for rear tire skid sounds only. This could be the thing
that makes trailbraking easyier to do since you ca=ould now feel the
rear steeping out and not have to wonder where the one skid sound GPL
has is modeling.Brake into a turn and feel the skids at the seat of
your pants start to grow as the rear slip angle increases and then
catch it before its too late:)

best is 1:06.28
I started using Alisons setup but then tried another from Schumi's fast lap
site and seemed to get on a little better with that (with some amendments).
I have to admit to not being very good on the setup front - no patience
and/or real understanding of what each tweak does.

what is 'trailbraking' ?? and how does it help get a quicker lap time?
thanks ..
