I ve a P2 233, I will upgrade to a P2 400 Voodoo2 + 128Mb SDRAM how much will it increase the GPL fps ? McKafre De La Rosa *** R E P S O L ***

My guess is right now you get mid 20's with some graphics and cars, but crawls with all cars and graphics on full. Well, crawl no more friend, at 400 it will be pretty much 36+ when running with a full field and all graphics. GPL really is great when driven this way. You may want to check into overclocking and run 450 for under a $90! JM

When I overclock my processor from 350 to 392, I get about an increase of 5-10 fps at the start of a race so you should see a big improvement. Jesse

I have a Dell XPS PII 266 that I've overclocked to 300 (changed clock multiplier). I don't think it's worth changing the motherboard and getting 100MHz RAM to overclock a Celeron 300A to 450 (these things cost a lot more in Canada). However, since non-overclocked Celerons run with a FSB of 66MHz, is it possible to just swap the CPU for a new Slot 1 Celeron 433? Would a BIOS update for the motherboard be required? It's a Dell with an Intel motherboard (82440FX chipset). Thanks in advance, Brian >I ve a P2 233, I will upgrade to a P2 400 >Voodoo2 + 128Mb SDRAM >how much will it increase the GPL fps ?

Brian wrote Sorry to ask this but... as we have the same computer (XPS D266), and from Canada also, did you just overclocked it by changing the speed of the CPU in the bios ? I read the manual and there's no jumper on the board to do so, except the "different Bios menu" one. So you just put the "Processor speed" to 300 ? My PC is cooled enough so that it won't over-heat if it's that easy. -= Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard/Nas-Frank> -= NROS Nascar sanctioned Guide http://www.nros.com/ -= SimRacing Online http://www.simracing.com/ -= Official mentally retarded guy of r.a.s. -= May the Downforce be with you... Hi Francois, I have the XPS H266 - it preceded the D series by a couple of months. Actually, before I took delivery, it was already superceded by the D266 and D300. The H266 doesn't have an AGP port and uses the 440FX motherboard chipset and jumpers - the D266 uses the LX chipset. To change the processor speed, I changed the clock multiplier from 4 to 4.5 by moving one jumper (4x 66MHz = 266, 4.5x 66MHz = 300). When booting, it comes up as a "XPS H300" - Dell never actually made a H300! If you can set the processor speed of your D266 from the BIOS setup screen, it's likely to work - back then, PII's were not clock-multiplier locked. I got about a 10% increase if framerate with GPL (that's with a Voodoo2). Brian >Brian wrote >>I have a Dell XPS PII 266 that I've overclocked to 300 (changed clock >>multiplier). You'd be suprised what a good Celeron 300A running at 450 mhz will do for you. I have been most pleased with mine. -- Don Burnette Palmetto Racing Dburn on Ten >I have a Dell XPS PII 266 that I've overclocked to 300 (changed clock >multiplier). Brian wrote Oh I bought my PC before Christmas, I won't do that error again (prices fall much faster in January). My Board didn't had any multiplier, so I was wondering if it was possible to do so via the Bios. Unlikely, unless Dell have a BIOS upgrade so it actually recognises the Celeron CPU. The board you have pre-dates the celeron by a good few months at least.
