I've been racing on VROC for a couple of weeks now, and tonight I had a
really hard time with a few things, first:
Anytime 1 other driver was connected to a race I hosted, my throttle
sounds and the tach needle bounced up and down like two bunnies in
heat,making the car way unpredictable and causing several blown engines...is
this an anomoly, it's never happened before tonight, and I dont think it's
my throttle pot, offline it works fine, and online as well, if I'm alone.
Just a bad night? Second:
How is latency, or ping times, measured, and how do I find out what
times I'm getting out of my connection? Online, I see people discussing them
as though this info were readily available to them.What do I need?Third:
Who owns/runs/administers VROC? I love the racing, I think it's
better than Nascar2 on Ten, and I can't believe it's free!Kudos to whoever
keeps this thing going, I hope it's around to stay.
Thanks, Ed

If you haven't done so allready, read Alison Hine's GPL online document,
download the VROC core.ini file, and if you use the sidewinder software make
sure "poll with interrupts enabled" check box is checked. If you have a
joystick icon in your control panel, look there.
Second:
time in milliseconds it takes for one packet of data to get from one
computer (client) to another computer (host) and back.
when you host a race, your ping or "latency" will be zero, but when you join
a race, then you may ping the host by pressing ALT-L ( you must close chat
pad first, then alt-l, then reopen chat pad to see your latency, lower is
better ;))
Also, when you host a race your ping to server is listed, but you know that.
sorry.
use the "Paddock" link at the VROC front page, you will see a founders link
then.
Yeah, VROC IS THE BOMB!!

Yes, if what you use is this :
[ Communications ]
; Default send_every is 2. Default send_size is 84. See readme for details.
net_mdm_client_send_every = 3 ; Client packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_client_send_size = 84 ; Client packet size on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_every = 3 ; Server packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_size = 84 ; Server packet size on dialup
If you don't have this section in your core.ini , add it (cut and paste it). It
may not be the default of GPL, but it has become the default on VROC (and my
guess is that it will also be the default in the patch). So, if this is
different from what the host has, the host is initially wrong (if on VROC
ofcourse).
If it's about a league host or some similar, then there could be specific
settings required by the host/league.
