Hey, I have a USR 56K V90 modem. What are some strings I could use that could change it to connect at 33.6 instead of 56k? Jesse

I don't know if this works, but below is an older post regarding a USR sportster 56k v.90. Brian -----Original Message----- Newsgroups: rec.autos.simulators Date: February 21, 1999 3:34 PM Subject: Re: Help needed - VROC, 56K USR

Hello Jesse ! Try this: AT+MS=11,0,300,33600,1,1, bye Tilus >Hey, >I have a USR 56K V90 modem. What are some strings I could use that could >change it to connect at 33.6 instead of 56k? >Jesse
Hi, I use the following and it works flawlessly: ATS32.6=1S32.5=1 S32.6=1 disables v.90 S32.5=1 disables 56K A. Renault
I think maybe some people are laboring under misconceptions about 56K modems. Here is some info that may help you understand why 33,6 is more stable: First, 56K modems are limited by law to 53K. The 56K part is just a buzzword. Second, 56K modems only upload at 31,2 no matter what speed you connect at. This could possibly***up an online racing session. (guessing) Third, 56K modems aren't just faster 33,6 modems, they use a totally different concept to acheive the higher speeds. Oversimplified, they recieve data digitally rather than in an analog fashion. If you are more than one D/A conversion away from your phone company's switching station, the signal is knocked back to analog and you aren't getting the higher connection speed anyway. Also, your local phone comapny may not have digital switching gear in that station, or may have a mix, so your nice clean line from your modem to the ISP's modems, may vacillate between digital and analog, which would surely goof up an online racing connection. This site has a ton of info about this topic: [link lost in import] This page has init string to limit the connect speed of USR/3com modems [link lost in import] Hope this helps daxe -----------== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News ==---------- http://www.newsfeeds.com The Largest Usenet Servers in the World! -----------== Over 66,000 Groups, Plus a Dedicated Binaries Server ==----------

Another thing you might wanna try is setting modem-speed in dial-up-networking: 1. Open your dial-up-networking folder. 2. Highlight and right-click on your ISP-icon, select "properties". 3. Select "Configure". 4. Set "Maximum Speed" to 38,400kbps. (I don't see a setting for 33.6 using W95) I just tried this and logged-on at 37.3k You'll connect 38,400kbps or lower. However, your V.90 modem will still log-on using the V.90 protocol. It may still be too fast, but might be worth a try. Good luck.
