Is there a utility that will automate this converter? I'd like to
covert a massive number of the screen shots without having to do all
that typing.
Thanks in advance,
Mike Barlow

No utility required. The functionality you need is built into Windows. Just
do the following:
1. Select the View | Folder Options command in Explorer or any folder
window.
2. In the Folder Options dialog box, select the File Types tab.
3. Select the New Type command button
4. In the Add New File Type dialog, type a description in the "Description
of Type" field, like "GPL Screenshot File."
5. In the "Associated extension" field type "PBF".
6. Select the New command button.
7. In the New Action dialog type "open" in the "Action" field and
"C:\SIERRA\gpl\pbf2tga.exe "%1"" in the "Application used to..." field.
8. Select the OK command button.
9. Select the Close command button.
10. Select the Close command button.
There you have it, in *10* *easy* steps. You've just made an association
between all files ending in .PBF and the PBF2TGA translation utility. Now
all you have to do is select one or more PBF files and hit Enter and the
translation of all the selected files is performed. The new TGA files will
be placed in the same directory as the source files, wherever they might be.
Caution: Before you attempt to convert 100 files simultaneously and bring
your system to its knees, select just a few and see how your system handles
the number that you've selected. Windows creates an instance of pbf2tga.exe
for every file you selected, so you'll have many applications running
simultaneously. More powerful systems can handle this with greater aplomb
than less powerful systems.
Much easier, isn't it?

Go into the ms-dos-prompt and type
for %%f in (*.pbf) do pbf2tga %%f
You could even make a .bat -file for this.

Try my file association solution, I've posted in this same thread. Once
you've set it up, it makes it *much* easier from that point on.

Jack
Go to the pits (www.theuspits.com) and go to the GPL section and they have a
batch pbf-tga converter there, it will convert all of the pbf files in the
dir to tga. Works good and no *easy* *10* steps to work with.

Did you understand that those 10 steps are performed once? If you're
familiar and comfortable with Windows, you can probably do it in less time
then it takes to download the utility. Once those ten steps are performed,
all you ever have to do is select the file(s) you wish to convert, hit
Enter, and "Voil" your PBF conversion's performed. No batch utility
necessary. With the file association technique a batch utility is
superfluous.

Thanks, Jack. I did it while following ur instructions. (u can open up more
than one window at a time, u know). Total time spent............abt. 15
seconds. Works like a charm. THANKS..................now i'm set for life
:)))))))

Right. Just select as many PBF files as you like, hit Enter, and you're
done.
Couple of final tips, for those of you who aren't old grizzled Windows
veterans:
To select contiguous files in either Explorer or a drive window:
Mouse:
Click the first file in the group and then Shift-click the last file in the
group.
Keyboard:
Highlight the first file.
Move to the last file while holding down the Shift key.
To select NON-contiguous files in either Explorer or a drive window:
Mouse:
Ctrl+click each file desired.
Keyboard:
Highlight a desired file.
Depress the Ctrl key while moving to the next desired file.
Press the Spacebar while continuing to depress the Ctrl key to select the
file.
here's what i do and it works just fine......type out the first line
sequence after the command prompt...when it is completed and your ready to
move on the next one....instead of typing it all out again....just hit
your F3 function key...it repeats the first line command and all you do is
then backspace the end of the line to the pbf number erasing it then
retype in the new number of the next pic and voila....much less to type
in....i can do 10 pics like this in no time at all.

Though the 10 steps I described earlier in this thread look a little
tedious, give it a try! You won't believe how much faster it is. You only
have to do those 10 steps once! An that's not "once per session"...just
"once". Give it a try!

No one has mentioned this, but the simplest solution would be to select
all your files in Explorer then drag and drop them onto the executable.
I haven't tried this with multiple files (and I'm at work), but this
should work if the program is written correctly and the file type
registry entry is set up right.

Replying to myself here -- unfortunately this doesn't work as it should. It
only converts one of the items.

I might have missed the beginning of the thread but if you want to
rapidly convert a bunch of files, bring up an MS-DOS window and type:
for %f in (*.pbf) do pbf2tga -32 %f
This will iterate through all the PBF files and convert them to
similarly named TIF files.
