does anyone out there have any knowledge as to how gpl has sold generally? i
know that it has sold well among people on this group, but is papyrus happy
with gpl's sales so far? i think its one of the greatest games i have ever
played and would like to see papyrus make more. (mercedes and auto-unions come
to mind) any info is appreciated. dan b
so I don't know .....
Iain
I think it's doing fairly badly.
It's pretty much halved in price in the shops I visit regularly.
Let's face it, the target audience were playing it from mid-98 onwards and
were already good at it by the time the full version hit the shelves ('cos
we had to handle that crappy Lotus setup :) ).
Everyone else is just intimidated by it.
That's a sweeping generalisation - kudos to the newcomers who are
persevering with it. It's a very satisfying game to play.

Very few computer games stay full price for long (unless they are "best
sellers"). It's par for the course for game software to get discounted
months after release. The market is over-saturated and this is just
part of the game marking business.

I never got round to sending off for the... whatever it's called... the big manual that was
missing from my 1st copy. I've been toying with the idea of buying another copy just for
that... and because I think GPL deserves the support. Maybe we should all put our
money where our mouths are and try to ensure Hasbro don't see GPL as a bit of a
lame duck?
Ok, daft idea, but there's a serious point in there somewhere.

Interesting point. Everyone I talk to about gpl is a sim racing nut
like me. I was willing to spend the time to learn how to drive a f1 car.
I wonder just how many casual users purchased it,knowing how hard of a
sim it was.
After all,GPL wasn't even named auto racing sim of the year.
Joel Willstein
I heard they had sold <20K copies in the UK which unfortunately wasn't too
good. I don't know about the rest of Europe and the US.
Compared to NFS3 that's pretty low, but I think Sierra will look on a lot of
the development for GPL, i.e. the physics, AI and graphics engine as R&D
costs, and look forward to making big sales on NASCAR and Indy car games.

F1 too, I hope

By whom? It actually did win quite a few awards. Off the top of my
head - it was the racing game of the year at gamecenter.com and was the
only sim (racing or flying) or sports-related game to be nominated for
game of the year. It also was the sports game of the year at the
Hartford Courant.

Me too, but unfortunately EA have just picked up the global licence to F1:-(
One just has to hope it is not exclusive.
