Anyone know where I can get some info on this game? Looks similar to Gran
Turismo.
Thanks
Well, its now called SportsCarGT. The "official" website is
www.sportscargt.com, but there isn't much there. Very little information
has come out on in since it was taken over by EA from *** Interactive.
Supposed to be released in Feb....but um, EA/EASports has done more
marketing for their Nascar Revolution and SBK that I wonder about it.
As for it being similiar to GT...no. Its based on the real PSC racing with
real race cars (quite a few have been licensed), damage, real tracks, etc.
I don't think, from information I have heard, that it will have a feature
like GT/Viper Racing does...but I may be mistaken.

You can check out my website at [link lost in import]
There is some info there as well as an interview with the Vice President of
ISI (company who made the game) Gjon Camaj.
As to it being published by EA means nothing as to what the game will be
like. Like a book, which has a writer and publisher. A game has the
writer(s) and the publisher. The publisher works with the advertising and
the packaging and the shipping to other stores. The writer(s) write the
code, and make the graphics and so on. Two totaly different departments.

Yup, you can check out this site for a little bit of info.
Yeah, I read it...wasn't terribly impressed.
The writer(s) write the code? Laugh. How about software developers,
software engineers, etc DESIGN and DEVELOP code. We just don't adhocly
write the code. As to the developer/publisher....Yes, they are seperate
companies...however, the publisher can make demands/suggestions/etc of the
developer. So yes, the publisher does have quite a bit of weight in
determining the outcome. I'd suggest going to www.gamasutra.com as they had
a real nice article awhile back on the publisher/developer gambit.
GamaSutra is a game development site...so its usually of interest to
programmers, me, but might give some insight to gamers on the daily lives of
those behind their favorite or least favorite game. :)
And yes, EA did acquire the rights to publish the game from ***
Interactive. Yes, there has been larger promotion of Nascar Revolution and
SBK than SportsCarGT. For a game thats about to ship there is no mention of
the game on www.ea.com, nor is the www.sportscargt.com finished...it still
says 'Complete Website Coming Soon.' <grin>
What I meant by writer(s) was exactly what you said, but to make it clear to
everyone as the similarity to a wrtier of a book, that's all.

write...so its pointless to compare them....if you don't believe me, read
some developer's version of "code documentation". :) Thank god for
technical writers. :)

Hey, don't generalize. I've written a programming book that's been
well-received by newcomers to the field, and I'm a programmer by
training and trade.

Well said Joseph!!

This game will be out about the same time the USRRC and the PSCR agree on a
rules package.

Both of your posts were unnecessarily impolite and obnoxious. Do you not like
this guy Adam or something? I don't even know him but your attitude pissed me
off. Why does tact and courtesy that is present when one talks evaporate when
one types? He was making an analogy. You understand an analogy does not have
to be perfect in every respect? He used a simple analogy to illustrate how
the publisher of a game ( like the publisher of a book) is not the creator of
the work like the author (software developer). Pretty good analogy to me.
Does an analogy have to be perfect to pass your standards? If so, who the
hell are you? Can you lighten up and not kill someone for not spending 20
ego-centric, sarcastic, obnoxious pansies flood the internet like . . . Ah,
who gives a shit.

Technical writers.......pah! :-) The only people who can document are system
architects and programmers and they can't (or more accurately won't). How many
cupboards are full of documentation that nobody reads because it's either
inaccurate, out of date, doesn't address the real issues, is written to a
mindless formula or is just plain jibberish. "So what does all this do?" -
"Ask xyz - he's the only person who understands it". Once the key members of a
development move on (usually all at once) it becomes a legacy code. :-)
No offence to all you technical writers - you do great stuff with the user
facing documentation, but when it comes to the innards, yours is an impossible
job :-)
Cheers,
Paul

Good point. Even most computer books you can buy in stores have the
same problems. Written by tech writers they are usually organized
wrong, and have too-shallow coverage of the areas you really need help
with.
Joe
I think the term "EA" makes folks grouchy...
