According to Hasbro Interactive (owner of Microprose), the new Geoff
Crammond F1 racing sim, Grand Prix 3, will be presented at the E3 Expo in
Los Angeles 13-15th May 1999.
They will give out a demo movie which introduces the features of the game.
They'll also tell the estimated release date, which probably will be August
1999.

Grand Prix 3 to be shown at E3 1999
A report said Hasbro Interactive would present Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 3 at E3 in May 1999, with an August release suggested. Veterans warned that GP2 had been delayed by about 18 months after similar early promises, and the thread drifted into Voodoo2 support, 3dfx pricing and TSW2 wheel reviews.
Automated summary.
Thats sounds great!
Have you heard anything about the specs? I was wondering because every other
report says "Voodoo2 support"! How do you just support the voodoo2? You
either have glide support or you dont! Im interested in this as I have a
voodoo1. Anyway I hope the Crammond has time to optimise the 3d engine this
time and include wet weather wich is badly lacking from the current crop of
good sims.

I wouldn't sweat it. IIRC, there are a few graphical effects that the
V2 has in its arsenal that the V1 does not. There was similar talk when
Janes F-15 was first coming out. It ran just fine on a V1.

I don't know what extras it has, but Incoming came with my V2 card and they said
it was V2 enhanced. Hopefully GP3 will be V3 enhanced... :-)

Apparently you all don't remember the "eagerly" awaited GP2. There were
millions of rumors (rumours for you across the pond) about the release date,
which kept being pushed back month after month after month...
As for "cutting out a large section of their prospective buyers"
(paraphrase), Crammond, while a gifted programmer, is a little short on
sympathy for us sim-buyers. GP2 was an unbelievable hog on resources.
Microprose simply said something to the effect of "hey, you need to buy a
new computer" and that was that.
The best advice is to:
Read all the magazines with Sneak Peeks / Previews / Rumo(u)rs / whatever in
them,
Look at all the pretty pictures of the pre-beta / beta code,
Listen to all the posts here about the forthcoming release,
Save up your pennies (as I will be doing after blowing a godawful huge wad
of cash on my TSW),
Drink a good stiff rum 'n coke nightly, and
Ignore every twinge of anticipation (that's what the rum is for) you may
feel until:
IT ACTUALLY ARRIVES ON THE STORE SHELVES!!!
Anything else is too painful. Trust me. I've been there. Got the t-shirt and
indigestion to prove it.

dates, dates, dates ... deja vu :)
Yeah, I remember when I first got GP2, I was running a P90 with
something like 16mb RAM, I rang Microprose support and told them I would
shortly be upgrading my machine and what would they recommend getting to
run it at full detail etc, they just laughed and replied that there was
no such machine that would be able to run it at full detail. This is
despite a review in PC Gamer that said it would run in SVGA with all
details on, on a P90.

Hopefully not!
V3 ain't gonna be what V2 was. No OEM sellers (except STB, which they
are buying). You buy from one of two places. STB or in the computer at
purchase.

3dfx is gonna***up with this one...

Dunno if you saw this in another thread. I've been too busy to race for
most of the last year. So yesterday I dusted off my GP2 and installed it
on my P2/400 w/TNT screamer. I haven't figured out how to get the sound
to work, so I chose no sound. Even without sound, I get over 100%
occupancy at the start of Monza. Sheesh!
I didn't look at DOS performance for the TNT (actually, I never expected
GP2 to work on this machine. I was expecting more competition in the
Windows world by now.) Does the TNT stack up okay as a VESA 2D card?

Actually, I think Crammond did an admirable job in how he handled this.

I think you're missing the point.
I didn't dis Crammond. Nor GP2. Nor Microprose. Well, okay: I did dis
MicroProse. Doesn't mean that I haven't been playing GP2 until I got GPL,
does it?
I'm just warning these guys that all they will get by helping to fuel the
"it'll be out this quarter!" blaze is a severe case of "I hate MicroProse"
when the release is INEVITABLY pushed back. And back.
Been there. And back.
I _will_ get GP3 when it makes the leap from vaporware to something my $50
will purchase. By then, tho, my bank account will have recovered from the
whole TSW trauma I've inflicted on it.
note: (And yes, I am making a point about it. My wheel hasn't arrived yet
[mid-March] and I'm in anguish about it. I think the shrinks call it
post-mortgage anxiety or some such tripe, but I'm hoping my run 'n coke
dependency will go away when the other thing arrives.)
Argh.

1. Mid-April
2. TSW2 Formula
3. Added paddles
Every review I have ever read was glowing. I have a friend I used to race
with online (about 4 years ago). He had a TSW (there was only the one kind,
then). He lived on peanut butter and Ramen noodles, but he had his TSW, and
said he'd never regretted the decision.
Eventually that started to sink in to me. My wife thinks I'm crazy to spend
so much on a "toy". My friend says that her husband is only slightly less
stupid by buyin gthe latest graphite fishing poles (we live in AZ -
different if CO), And the one guy at work that I respect just kind of shakes
his head.
And I'm still buying the thing!

Thank you for the info. I'm still interested in the review of someone who
has had one of these for longer than a one week review period. Especially
interested if someone has had one for a year or more - how well has it held
up.
Currently I have one of the original Thrustmaster T1 Limited (all metal)
wheels. It has been used on average an hour a day for almost five years -
mostly road courses. So far it has had one spring break, but no other
failures. Just recently (in the last two weeks) it has started to develop
"the jitters," and probably needs new pots. I'm trying to decide whether or
not it is worth going to a newer wheel with more features. My projected
budget for a new wheel was +-$500, making the TSW2 reachable without going
too far over. I can't yet convince myself to spend the additional $500 for
the difference in the TSW2 and the TSW99, Though I do like the thought of
having a real wheel, and want a round rather than a D-shaped wheel.

>I just checked my facts: >1. Mid-April >2. TSW2 Formula >3. Added paddles >And I'm still buying the thing! >Av/MikeyI got my TSW2 in April of 98. As a matter of fact, I believe I got one of
the very first production units. When I received the wheel and pedals, I
was impressed by the way it was built, and how heavy it was. It became
obvious these pedals weren't going to roam around over the floor. The
clamping mechanism is simple, yet extremely effective and easy to attach.
The pedals plug into a jack from a wire coming out of the wheel, very quick.
At first I was concerned about wearing that jack out, but after hooking it
up and unhooking it for the past several months, it is showing no signs of
wear.
It took me a little getting use to, going from a T2 to the TSW. I lowered
the wheel lock a little in my setups, and soon was back up to speed.
The wheel is very smooth, I couldn't believe the difference between it and
the T2. Made me wonder how I was able to drive so long with the T2.
The pedals are very smooth as well, with the brake having higher resistance
than the gas as it should have. The pedal throws are shorter than the TM
wheels, but again, I got used to it quickly, and actually like it better,
much easier on the feet.
I had a little trouble with the pots early on, but settled on the Digikey
pots I learned about from this newsgroup. I have had these 3 digikey pots in
since late May/early June, and have yet to have a problem with them. I do
have an extra set for when I do need them. Also, the pots are very easy to
replace.
I have been extremely pleased with the TW2, and plan on upgrading it
sometime this year buy going with the modular wiring system, and adding a
clutch pedal. Plus, the support from Thomas Enterprises has been very good.

There are 3 games I can't wait for:
GP3, Cart 2000, and NHL 2000
NHL 2000 is already in production, but what about GP3 and CART 2000. All I ever
hear is freken rumors about these 2 games. Why isn' there any solid evidence
these days?
I'm willing to wait a bit more for Cart 2000... as long as it ends up being
a far jump above GPL and N3. And IT must have realistic damage model to
it...what passes for a "realistic" damage model in GPL is insane not to
mention it just doesn't work online. :)
In 1993 we had the same rumours and the same free demo and the same
presentation venue for GP2.
And then we waited for another 18 months before GP2 actually hit the
retailers.
So please, please........let's retain our e***ment for a lttle while
yet! :o)
