After installing Motocross Madness and launching it, the game says
"Motocross Madness has detected a change in your video settings, we must now
test yadda yadda yadda." The screen goes black for a second and then I am
returned to my desktop with no errors, no game, no messages of any kind. Any
ideas?

You didn't mention what video card you have.
Make sure you have the latest revision of the drivers.
My second box has a Rendition card and Voodoo1, and without the latest
Rendition drivers, MX Madness would bomb to the desktop.
Exact same symptoms.

problem by downloading new drivers
