Bob McCarthy of Las Colinas, TX has announced the launch
of a new company called Motorsport Simulations. They plan
to release several racing titles for PC's in 1999 as well as
on-line multiplayer support via their own system. Online
support is scheduled to be up and running in the Spring of
1999.
McCarthy comments: "My goal at Motorsport Simulations is
to bring the motorsport enthusiast the thrills, e***ment
and challenges of an authentic racing experience via their
PC. We've built a team that combines a love of motorsports
with a true understanding of what makes a great simulation.
There's a massive audience for motorsports, and we want
to bring their favorite motorsport events home to their
computer, and ultimately get them racing online."
Bob McCarthy served as chairman of Interactive Creations,
publisher of the flight sim "Warbirds." Other members of
the Motorsport Simulations team include Stephen Wilkinson,
VP of Development, and Matt Jessick, an aerospace engineer
who will head the company's physics department.
"Given our company name, there should be no doubt as to our
focus," says McCarthy. "We intend to be the leading source
of motorsport entertainment for computer gamers and racing
fans. We understand what the hard-core simulation fan is
looking for, and we intend to give it to them. We also
intend to make our products accessible to the casual player
via options such as training modes."
Motorsport Simulations has connections with several members
of the racing community such as Pat Patterson (author of "Pat
Patterson's Guide To Racing") and Dave Despain, a racing
commentator for the SpeedVision network. Motorsport Simulations

wasnt there a guy affiliated with GPL that recently moved to dallas area to
work on an UNNAMED racing project?? I bet that is the project he couldnt
talk about.

Let's hope they keep the 'fun' in their games along with the simulation
part. Example, GPL is just too hard core for many hence they don't see
it as that much fun, I included. Viper on the other hand seems to strike
a more reasonable balance.

That's one difficult target to hit unfortunately.
Personally I find Viper initially fun, but too shallow for any real
long term fun. GPL I find initially challenging, but then sustaining
my interest over the long term. That is true of most people (that they
will disagree, not that they will all prefer GPL!) which makes
targetting a market somewhat tricky. The competition in the arcade end
of the market is tough in that there are so many competitors, and in
the sim market it's tough due to the quality expectations.
Different strokes...
Cheers!

True, many F1 drivers during the 50s and 60s raced also F2, sportscars
(eg. Mille Miglia, Le Mans, CanAm), touring cars and even at the
Indy500. Plus, there were some non-world championship F1 races back
then.
Too bad that the modern day F1 drivers don't risk to compete in other
racing events - they might get beaten.
Apart from contract and sponsorship restraints, testing and promotion,
it should be easier to race every weekend on different racetracks as
most top drivers have private planes.
Fangio nearly killed himself in 1952 when he raced on Saturday in
Ireland, did not get the promised airplane, drove to Monza during the
night, arrived there at 2 in the afternoon, started at 2:30, and were
in the hospital at 3.

Thanks for your interest in Motorsims! I just wanted to let everyone
know that we have posted some more screenshots on our web page.
There are now 10 or so shots of Pikes Peak International Raceway.
While I'm not at liberty to discuss our timing for a demo version,
but I'd be happy to answer any other questions that I can!

Sorry to shoot down a good thread, but currently, there are no former
employees of that company (who shall remain nameless) working at Motorsims
:)
Many of us are from other Dallas-area game companies and almost all of
us come from an online-*** background. I don't want to take up too
many bits here, but we'll be posting bios and stuff on our web page as
soon as we can!

I definitely agree with you both. Since we will be racing online, our
challenge
is to have a game that is fun to play and also allows you to grow into the
more difficult aspects of racing a highly accurately modeled virtual
motorcycle over
time. It is a very important task for us to get this balance right. And we
will
listen gladly to any comments from the sim-racing community! And as we near
time for beta testing, we will definitely do our best to roll the best
constructive
suggestions into the game!
