Ok, I lost the postings about how to edit the track.ini's to remove the left front tire from overheating. I'm starting to run in a new TPTCC league and we need to know how to edit the .ini's. Can someone reeducate me/us? Thx -- Richard "ZZ" Busch Member: Screamers Racing League OAO CORS MARA TransAm RASCAR GPL Rank + 17.415 MoGPL Rank + 318.586 N2002 Rank + 7.695 TransAm Rank ??
There is some stuff in the online FAQ for the TPTCC mod that might work. Haven't actually verified it myself. "ZZ" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3VhRb.53269$[email hidden]... > Ok, I lost the postings about how to edit the track.ini's to remove theleft

I've noticed severe locking up of the left front at several road courses (including Sebring and nose-ring). Is this related ? -Larry "ZZ" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3VhRb.53269$[email hidden]... > Ok, I lost the postings about how to edit the track.ini's to remove theleft

You can find inis edited with the purpose of giving more credible tire heat and wear results, and an explanation of the philosophy behind the modifications, at http://users.skynet.be/AchimT/start.html (look in the bottom left hand corner) for many tracks. However, there's this particular overheat issue on some road courses with the RF tire, and I'm not sure there's a real cure for this at all. The above mentioned track.inis will cure this to an extent, but they cannot really remove the cause for the problem, as I think it's hardcoded, a consequence of N2k3 originally having been made for ovals. I've experimented a lot with all sorts of parameters in the inis, and I've found ways to get the right and left hand tires to heat up evenly, but at the cost of a very ugly-to-drive car. I haven't fully tested everything out yet in that direction, but I have a feeling the cause is hardcoded in the exe, really. Achim
Thx, Achim! Interesting. Provocative. Now if only we had a Bernie Ecclestone/FIA to enforce the *preferred* track.ini's online.... Those items are impounded in our races :) -Larry "Steve Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:fksRb.57273$[email hidden]... > That's what BB & weightjacking are for! <VBG>
Whaddyamean online. I'd assumed none of this mattered online? You mean guys can adjust there own track grip and go online and have THAT grip? HMMMMM. OK gimme the grip too :) Seriously... Mitch "Steve Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9yxRb.59140$[email hidden]...

Mitch_A wrote: > Whaddyamean online. I'd assumed none of this mattered online? Online the server's ini determines the parameters used for all clients. It doesn't matter which values the client's track.ini contains. As for what these settings do, please go to the site I mentioned and read the explanation, so you'll know the reasons for doing this and the goals. Because, the grip is - on purpose and for a good reason - never modified. It's all explained at that site. If I _would_ touch the grip, then I would only _lower_ it on many of the new tracks because most of the new trackmakers use far too high grip values, depriving the physics of a lot of their beauty, to the extent where it has negative side effects on the car's behaviour. The modifications I make are exclusively to tire heat, wear and grip loss over the race distance. Read the explanations, its all in there, and grip is never touched anywhere. But as I said above, online, the server's ini decides all this anyway. All clients have no choice, they get sent the values the server has in its track.ini, and then these server's values apply to all clients. Achim
Ok thats on par with what I'd assumed :) And the reason I hadnt paid it much mind in the past. Thx J Mitch "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message >

No, as a client, you can't change the server's .ini, but there's no Supreme Being (or whatever) to ensure that ALL servers are using the same .ini values. I'm sure Achim has put a lot of work and thought into the values on his server, but I might not agree. "Mitch_A" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:g6yRb.16776$[email hidden]...

I'll take your word for it. I've been driving sims since Indy500 and GP1(don't know which was first). In all of the games I've owned(ICR 1 and 2, N1-2003, GPL, etc), I have only been able to effect a positive change on a setup ONCE. Every other think I've ever changed on a setup has always made it WORSE. By the time I got to N4(after failing in the past 14-16 games), I simply don't try anymore. Damn waste of time. All I ever do now is change the steering ratio or fuel level(if it's allowed). I don't understand the setups, never have no matter what I tried. I just figured I never WILL... I just have to hope I occasionally *luck* into downloading a setup for a specific track that suits my style, 'cause *I* damn sure can't modify it.
