I come seeking wisdom :) I was just saying in another thread how I seem to get my tyres to last well on road courses. I've just done an 80L Indy race in preparation for the new Cup season and all of a sudden I'm one of the worst in regards to tyre wear. Anyone have any tricks or advice on making them last better? I tried tearing off in third place and soon had a 5s gap over 4th but then slowed as the tyres went and lost it all. Next stint I tried staying calm. Only difference was I went slow in the early laps then slower as the tyres wear. It's driving me nuts ;) Ginger's a great example of what I can't do. In most races he'll set off on my pace or a couple of tenths off and by halfway through the stint he's lapping way faster. If I try a practice run lapping at his original pace at the beginning, I can't match his later pace. I guess this means it's 'lines/controls' related rather than sheer pace. All advice/insults gratefully received ;) Regards
I have trouble with tire wear myself. I think it comes from the weight of the cup cars. One thing I have found that works is to raise the ratio on your steering box. Let me know if it gives you any success. He may be right you know! Cup cars are REALLY heavy... in our league we regularly have two groups of drivers.. those that start 'hot' and pull away about 13 seconds , and those that 'save' their tyres . Guess who is in front after 50 laps ? On cold tyres , if you push that fast racing line , especially on full tanks , for the first 5 laps or so, then that sets you up for increased tyre wear .. If you are smooth through the corners , however for the first 15 laps, and THEN , with the lower fuel levels, you push ..with the lower weight you get much less tyre wear and .. the 'fast' guys have pretty much used the ' fresh' bit of their tyres by then so the speed differential between the two strategies is quite high ! That's my take on the tyre wear story anyway :-) Of course if all you get to race in is a series of short sprints, punctuated by yellows , then none of this comes into play. jv "Haqsau" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

If you have Martin Granberg's NR2003 Replay Analyzer, check your speed, steering and brake traces against Ginger's. You may be going in a bit deeper and gaining time, but losing it back on the exits. Your lap times would be the same early on, but you'd be cooking your fronts scrubbing off your excess entry speed. If you don't have it, you should...
