It was with much anticipation that I recieved this game. Having read all
the posts on this group I was a little concerned about how hard it would
be to play. I have had GP2 for a couple of years and can get down to the
quick times (or within a second ) of Westra, Lake etc,. I finally did my
upgrade (300a celeron,128mg,voodoo banshee) and went to Watkins Glen in
a trainer.
Graphics awesome, car control, not bad, not as difficult as I suspected.
A few laps to get the lay of the land and back to the pits. Change to
Advanced trainer, more power, hmmm this is getting interesting, the tail
wants to slide out a bit, a few laps, a few off road excursions, some
very interesting replays.
Back to the pits, Grand Prix car, leave the pits, donut, opps, power on,
another donut, ok, a little easier on the throttle, ease it throught the
gears, its a little nervous but I'm getting the feel for it. A few more
laps, a little quicker, not as many off road excursions, start thinking
that I can go quick. Think again stupid! Many off road excurions, this is
with the Lotus. I decide to try the coventry, everyone says thats
easier.
A few laps and decide to try a couple of quick ones. In the middle of my
first lap I am brought to a startling thought. This car handles the same
as my 220HP Toyota Celica Special Stage Rally car in 1978. It brought
back some memories I'll tell ya. Power slide through one cornor, dance
on the brakes and Pedals and Presto some quicker laps. Not down to Clark
yet but getting close. This game is all about car control.
I went to Mosport and tried a few laps. having driven it in the 70's I
was amazed at how closely it was to the real thing.
For fun I also tried the Ring, WOW, 1 lap at touring speed. That will be
some awesome race when I get to it.
The end of the first day with GPL left me breathless. I think in a
couple of weeks I'll give on-line a shot, hopefully I will have gotten a
little quicker and more consistent by then.

Great post. Keep on driving. You have the right attitude which is more
than I can say for most of the "It's too hard... waaah" crowd. :-)
Practice, practice, practice

Welcome to the club Tony. I had eight days without driving GPL over the Xmas period
and rediscovering it when I finally had time was a real joy. I still find it hard to believe
what Papyrus have done with GPL. Amazing achievement.
Now, if only I could work out how to get free phone calls in the UK sim-life would be
pretty damned perfect! :-)

It is possible! I'm not sure how, but it is :o)

Thanks for sending me your bank account number. My British Telecom direct debit
should be a lot easier to bear now... for me at least ;-)

Thanks for taking the time to share your enthusiasm. Your post was
particularly enjoyable in light of your racing background. I too raced
sports cars some years ago, and the realism of GPL certainly rekindles the
spark!
Thanks, Papyrus...nothing comes close!

I take it you took advantage of BT's "50p maximum call charge" offer
yesterday (Jan 1st)? That's certainly one way to get online cheaper. I
popped upstairs and upped the modem just after the bells and dropped
the call at 5 minutes to midnight. I'll give BT 50p for that time :-)
Cheers!

Oh sh*tw*nkb*ll*xF**K!
Mmm... must buy a newspaper occasionally or turn the TV on a little more often.

Oh, sorry GB - I probably shouldn't tell you the same offer applied on
Christmas Day and you missed that too....
<GD&R> :-)
Cheers!

Help, aliens abducted my reply!
Which was something like "Don't care about Xmas day, I was 200 miles away from my
PC!"
Andrew "Twilight Zone" McP
You could do what I did and sod BT in favour of Cable & Wireless.....
I'm not sure if the offer still applies but for a while it was the same
type of offer, just 50p no matter how long, EVERY saturday.
Cheers!

Yeah, I totally agree. I just came back from a week on holiday in
Tunisia and on getting home one of the first things I did once I was all
settled in was fire up GPL and zoom around Spa for a while. First time I
went through Eau Rouge I nearly passed out :-) Amazing.
The dream lives on..... Cable modems will do away with phone bills when
they get here but doubtless they'll cost just as much per month as the
average dialup connection & phone bills do anyway......
Cheers!
