GPL Crashes in Win98

3 posts by 2 people · 01 Jan 1999 - 02 Jan 1999

GPL crashes (GPF in GPL.EXE) constantly under win98. Using a Creative Voodoo2/12mb on a P2/333 with 128mb RAM. Anyone got any hint as to what I might do to fix this? -- ========================================================= John Simmons - Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html John Simmons - Barbarian Diecast Collector http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html IGPS Director http://members.home.net/jms1/igps.html If you want to send me email, go to either of the URL's shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

This is from my earlier post for GPL lockup with Direct X6. It may be DX6 problem and not W98. I have W98 and DX6 and this worked for me . Thanks to other posts (and M. Carver) I think I fixed my screen lockups in GPL with Direct X6 and Monster 3D 2 (or other V2 cards). Seems that DirectX6 (that is needed for new games) replaces the V2 glide files with new ones that have problems with GPL. I just downloaded the rkv2.exe (reference V2 driver files) file from here http://www.3dfx.com/software/RkV2.exe , unzipped it to a temp folder(dont install) and place the following files in the main GPL directory. glide2x.dll glide3x.dll glide2x.ovl Then GPL will use these files and other games will use the glide files in the Windows directory.

I fixed it. The problem was actually with win98. It seems that win98 doesn't much appreciate the use of himem.sys and emm386.exe in the config.sys file. Once I REM'd out those two lines, everything was fine.
