Recomend a newbie some racing games.

Hi, I play all kinds of games and have never tried many racing games. I finally decided to give it a shot and bought a Thrustmaster Sprint wheel and NFS III (don't laugh). While this has been fun, I find myself playing the GPL demo more than NFS. I love the physics and challenge of trying to keep one of these cars on the track, but I'm not sure I want much more than the demo offers, I don't want to spend hours messing with various settings on the car, nor spend weeks practicing to knock a few seconds off my lap time. I'm looking for a game with a fairly easy learning curve, but with realistic physics (ala GPL, or as close as they come). Is this an impossible comination ? Keep in mind I'm not a super hard core sim driver like alot of the readers of this group. I want to be competitive with the other AI cars after a few days. Given a choice between types of cars I've always liked Formula 1 more than Nascar, but would easly get a Nascar type of game if it met my criteria for a game better than an F1 type. I might even go for an off road type of game. Summarize: 1) Good Physics 2) Not super complicated, or difficult to learn. 3) Graphics are not real important. 4) F1 prefered, but not critical. Thanks see you on the roads, Mike U.

Give Viper Racing a try. Very good physics, and the new demo has much improved opponent AI.
Viper is a good choice but for F1 get MGPRS2. Turning a 1:37 in expert mode at Suzuka will be almost impossible for most drivers, but MGPRS2 has different skill settings and aids so you should be able to enjoy it no matter what your skill level or practice time is. If you are in the U.S., you will have to order it from a web site like InteractCD.com since it won't be released here until Feb. David G Fisher >Give Viper Racing a try. If you are real lucky you might be able to find a copy of Grand Prix II and there are plenty of setups available on the web which will make you competative after a couple of weeks especially with the driving aids available in the sim. Paul

I belive the sim. you are looking for is called GPL... :-) All the best, Edwin Solheim **remove spamguard in address to reply** Drop by "The Paddock - a legendary site....." for some cool GPL stuff! http://home.c2i.net/thepaddock

GPL is legendary (as everyone knows) in this newsgroup, but the thread subject here is recommended racing games for newbies. GPL is not for newbies. Viper Racing is much more enjoyable for a newbie as it's very easy to get started with in terms of both user interface and driving learning curve. GPL would be a lot more enjoyable after becoming a fairly competent driver in VR, IMO. My brother has never tried a racing sim, so yesterday I showed him Viper Racing and let him try it. Within about two minutes he was driving around the Silverdale track without crashing (using a TM Nascar Pro wheel). For comparison, I showed him CART Precision Racing and let him try that on the Miami oval, and it was a disaster. He couldn't control the car at all in the limited time we had, and we were in Rookie mode with some of the driving aids enabled. My brother applied too much throttle, too much steering input, and not enough brakes. GPL would have been even worse. -- Bill Jones e-mail addresses: (860) 437-5650 WWW: http://pages.cthome.net/billj
