I find that getting into a "zone" as its called is the key to success in GPL. Yesterday i shattered my personal best at Monza with the BRM, Eagle and Honda!!!!! Today i cant get below a 1:35 with any of em. Its not my controller, its the fatc that im not able to find my zone. I have no rythem and i miss my braking points. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing? Chris

Yeah. I find you know right away whether you're on a good day or not. If not, no amount of knob-twisting or mouse-clicking is going to help. (unless of course you apply the Mansell Solution :-)) Pack it, and come back tomorrow. GPL definitely lets you know how your synapses are firing. Steve B. remove "edy" from address for email

Chris: Absolutely, happens all the time to me. One day, or even one hour, I can be on fire and the next I can't complete one lap ... sometimes I'm on fire then too, but with real flames. Oddly enough, some of my best races have come after qualifying attempts that were pathetic and barely made it onto the grid. I suspect that the real hotshots are a lot more consistent, but I'm a firm believer in the zone, at least with GPL. Have you tried sacrificing a chicken? Messes up the keyboard but it might help :-) Joe

How odd it seems but id have to agree. After having about 3 beers, it seems i can kinda guess exactly how the car is moving around and catch it before i spin. And the same with braking, i can brake just at the right time and turn in. When i'm sober i tend to overbrake "being subconsciously too carefull" all opinions expressed while drunk, stoned and flying through clouds.
I used to road race motorcyles, and always wondered what it would be like to drink just one beer, then try a few laps. I know my fear would be dulled just a bit, and thought that might improve lap times, but I just liked living too much to try it! Well I did a Test many years back on the effect of drinking on driving. a few beers did not slow me down, but any more and my reaction times really sucked. I would not want to drive anything but a underpowered street car while drinking. If I was in my current Solo ll car I would have wraped it around something. DAve

What is the _easiest_ car in GPL to drive? Thanks! -Larry

My personal opinion is the BRM. Its not a torquey as the other cars which means acceleration is easier. The 6 gear thing is confusing for newbies; but if you want i have setups for it where i only use 5 of them. My second easiest to drive is the Eagle but thats probably cause i spend a bulk of my time in it. Alot of people seem to think the Coventry and Murasama are the easiest but i dont have enough time in them to tell you anything, but IMHO the Coventry seems the better of the two. Happy racing, Chris

It depends on what you are planing on doing with the car. I will tell you to stay away from the Ferrari as it need to be wamed up allot with the default config. I found the Lotus to be a solid good handling car but other people find it hard to drive. The BRM and Bramham are very well behaved cars and it is hard to get into trouble with them but are a little slow with the default setup. The best thing to do is just choose a car and stick with it. Rember practise, practise, practise and you will get the hang of it and be able to drive all the cars with little trouble.
Try the Coventry using Alison Hines setups or the Lotus using Graeme Nash's, I find the Coventry fun and relatively easy to drive, I use that for learning the circuits and then take to the Lotus for quicker laps, using Graemes setups though it seems a lot more stable on some circuits (Silverstone) than others (very twitchy at Spa) although this is probably more due to my poor driving! The Murasama is a good bet - also look on Alisons site for setups Stay away from the Ferrari unless you like grass tracking! -- Mike Buckley WWW: www.toastyhamster.freeserve.co.uk
