I saw an add for vaporware or a driving simulator modeled after the late
60's and early 70's muscle car series on the Trans-Am circuit. It had
the
latest technology for physics modeling and graphics and was to be
available fall of 1998. Has anyone seen or heard of this, or knows
about
an actual release date. That would be by far the best idea for a
driving
simulator yet. Can I get an AMEN?
Thank you brothers (and sisters)
You mean Trans-Am Racing '68-'72. This game has been delayed until March
'99. More info will be available soon on http://www.simracingnews.com

That sounds like an awesome sim!! If it is a sim, that is...I hope it's up
to par with GPL, cause I love road course racing, but am not much of an open
wheel fan. And I think that the Trans-am series is about the best racing
series around (except for NASCAR). Looks like they might not be around much
longer though...I guess we'll see.

Hope that reveals some answers.

Riverside!!!!!!!!!! Yes! One problem I see though, looking up through the
esses in the screenshot at the bottom of page one, where are the Turn-6
grandstands?
I spent many, many days corner working and shooting at that track, I can't
wait to finally drive it.

Don't worry, we're still hard at work on Trans Am Racing. Our main focus
right now is on performance (i.e. frame-rate), since the target machine is a
200 Mhz Pentium with hardware 3D acceleration running a field of 12+ cars at
a solid 30 fps. But don't worry, all you guys with overclocked Celerons and
SLI'd Voodoo 3's will be able to crank up the resolution and graphics detail
for the ultimate in racing sim. visuals. And it is DEFINITELY a racing
simulation, with all the requisite car setup options, virtual***pits, six
DOF multi-body physics, realistic driving model, etc. The game will also
feature a "relaxed-realism" mode where car performance will be equalized and
all you'll need to do is jump in and drive. Multiplayer over the internet
is a priority, and the game will have support for Heat.net (similiar to
VROC). Although we would have liked to be out for Christmas, we feel it is
far more important to deliver a solid, well-performing product. With that
in mind we will be doing extensive testing prior to the game's release, now
slated for Spring '99. Sorry to keep all you diehard Trans Am fans waiting,
but it will be worth it!

Is that a '68/'69 Charger I saw in one of the screen shots?

No, the only Mopar's in the game are Sam Posey's '70 Challenger and the '70
Barracuda driven by Dan Gurney and Swede Savage.

Did he say SLI'd Voodoo 3's ? That video card is not even out yet! Does
it mean my SLI'd Voodoo 2's are obsolete!?! Can't wait to play this
game. Is it supposed to include the Mont-Tremblant and Trois-Rivieres
tracks (Quebec, Canada) and driver Mo Carter (a crowd favorite at
Trois-Rivieres)?

It
reminds me of when I was waiting for X-Car to
come out: first one delay, then another.
Finally, seems maybe 6 months after the
projected release date, it was released. I
had stopped looking for it by then. Also, I
never bought it because it simply stunk. But,
(guys at GTGames, are you listening?)
interest does wane over time. You need to
draw the line somewhere, and call it done.
I'd love to see a perfect software title too,
but it hasn't happened yet, and it probably
never will. That giant sucking sound you hear
is all the cash flowing into OTHER people's
cash registers.
Later...
