By whats on the EA Sports website it sounds like Nascar 99 with better
graphics.
I hope it doesn't need a patch.
I am downloading the demo also. Here is the URL at EA for the game:
http://www.easports.com/99/nascarrevolution/index.html
It sounds pretty amibitious, I hope the driving model isn't all goofy.

I would guess great graphics with a Need for Speed driving
model.

game. The graphics are pretty good (sort of NFS III). The demo has one track
(C***te) and allows you to jump into any of the real life drivers.
It doesn't allow you to do any modifying of the cars, although there is a
screen to do that (full version).
There is a spotter a la Nascar 2, and announcers as well (Benny Parsons and
what's his name) all they do is repeat same stuff over and over though.
What really impressed me in the demo was the sounds of the engines. They
sounded dead on, especially getting out and onto the throttle through the
turns. Hopefully someone at Papyrus will take a listen to engine sounds in
this demo and add it for their next product.
I doubt if this title will be any threat to Papyrus's Nascar products, it
seems more suited to the Playstation or N64.

Ime downloading it now, the EA web page seems to indicate that its a sim and
not an arcade game, they mention lots of setups etc..

Well, after playing with this one a few times heres my .02 cents.
Very Nice car graphics, track looks good also, but front stretch has a
different feel than NR99 does. Never heard the crew chief or spotter
voices, but benny and bob are in there, alas they seem to repeat the same
cheesy lines, (there's some great racing out there) over and over. Very few
things you can change in this demo, the readme promises glide support,
multiplayer, and force feedback among other trings in the final product.
Now my main beef, you have NO control over what happens on pit road after
you pass the entrance marker, some sort of autopilot takes over. The crew
members are something else, though. Looks like they used motion capture or
something, as they move very nicely.
As in NR99, no beer or cig advertising, so we get Rusty with a Penske racing
motif, and Schraeder with Andy Petree Racing all over it.
This might be something to buy when the whole deal comes out, a possible
alternative to NR99, but IMHO nothing to topple NR99.
adios
I d/l the demo last night and it starts OK, but goes to a black screen after
the opening screen and either closes the program by itself or locks up the
computer. Anyone else have this experience?

Is it just me or does anyone else find EA's advertising blurb
a little bit obnoxious? "The first 'raceable' PC racing simulation.
A game where you race against other DRIVERS, not frustrating 'flight
simulator' conventions."
Something tells me those quotation marks around "raceable" and
"flight simulator" are a compromise between EA's marketing and legal
departments... :-)

I haven't got the demo but try using older drivers for the Monster 2. I have
problems with those new drivers (12/01)
with GPL.

Its just letting you know ahead of time, what type of game it is. I prefer
this type of "arcade" racing. I do like Nascar 2 also, but I do prefer the
arcade type racing better. I just don't have all day to sit around trying
to configure every little aspect of a cars setup for a simulator type game.
For me, it takes the fun out of the game.
I *hate* any type of flight simulator, so I would agree with their
statement.
I was really impressed by this game so far. People also need to remember
its not finished yet, and won't be released until Feb. 1999. EA has really
been making some excellent games lately.

I don't have anything against your preferences as I myself
like to drive "light" (CMR, Daytona2, NFS1) as well as "heavy" (GPL,
GP2, etc.). However, EA's claims could be considered false and
misleading were it not for the vagueness supplied by the quotation
marks.
What is "raceable" exactly? Does this mean that every driving
simulation prior to Nascar Revolution consisted of nothing but
hotlapping? Race against other DRIVERS? Then what mysterious force
has been blocking my Lotus from taking the lead in a GPL race? And
"'flight simulator' conventions"? Could this be a clever euphemism
for "physics"?
As I haven't had the pleasure of downloading the 30MB demo and
trying it out, I can't comment on the actual game. But whether it
turns out to be the greatest thing I've ever played or not, the
marketing angle EA has taken is a very poor one. Better to admit to
catering to arcade-oriented drivers than to snidely dump on the
accomplishments of Papyrus.
