Thanks in advance

Perhaps try fiddling with the steering linearity in the options screen?

I'm still looking
for a joystick that doesn't wear out after 1 year.

your wheel. Radio Shack sells some called Tuner Control cleaner and
lubricant. Open the casing of your wheel and look for the metal object
with the wires running to it. Spray the cleaner down inside the pot
(between the wires) and turn the wheel back and forth. It works wonders
for jerky steering. Credit goes to the person who originally posted this
solution (whoever it was).

David, the potentiometer in your joystick is 'dirty'. This can
be confirmed by going to the Win9x calibration or test routine
and observing the 'dot' as you oh-so-slightly-and-gently move the
controller left and right. Jumpy 'dot', dirty pot.
You'll have to pick up some contact cleaner at Radio Shack or
some such, take the controller apart, and squirt the little
*** while you wiggle the controller around. Don't use WD-40.
Turn the computer off.
Note that when a potentiometer gets to this stage, it's on it's
last legs.

advanced section of the Joystick bit of the Windows Control Panel.
Turn it off if you can.

I have had a MS sidewinder 3D pro for at least 2 and a half years now
and never had any problems. Just recently bought a wheel and peddles
after buying GPL, but quickly went back to the joystick as giving me
more precise control. Steering is lateral movement of the stick -
forward is set to throttle and the brake is connected to the sticks
throttle lever. I have used the twist capablility of the stick to
steer (but I didn't find it quite as controllable).
