My System:
Pii-333mhz, 128mb Ram, 21" Viewsonic monitor
TM NPro Wheel/Pedals
Thriller 8mb PCI - V2200 Rendition
Creative Labs VooDoo2 12mb PCI - 3dfx
Installed the game with the Win95/3dfx install option.
Under 3dfx:
Game runs flawlessly.
All graphics "on" - fence set to "auto" to test framerate.
Min/Max FPS set at 30/30
39 opponents (all being drawn ahead) w/2 drawn behind w/3 heard
All tracks with me at rear of field give me 30fps constantly...no flutter.
Under Rendition:
Game again runs flawlessly.
Same graphics settings. The people in the stands are much more brighter with
Rendition but the less bright 3dfx stands looks better to me.
Summary: I am a diehard Rendition junkie and I have to admit that I like the
look of the 3dfx version better. I will continue to test them both and see if
that holds up.

How are you measuring the frame rate?
I can't find a setting for this...

The readme gives specific instructions for turning the frame rate counter
on. It only works in the dos executables.
Open your Nr99prf file with notepad. You should see the keyword framerate
with a REM in front of it. Remove the REM, and make sure there is no space
in front of the word framerate. It will then show your framerate in the
upper left corner if your running a dos executable.

Thanks for the info.
Too bad I can't use it. I have the MSFFW and N2 can't see it properly
in DOS mode :(

Set the objects to AUTO and set the MAX/MIN framerate is
appropriate. Then when you run the game you know that you
are below whatever framerate you set when the objects
disappear.

... or read the README.TXT file and you'll learn exactly how to enable the
framerate display.

Or... If you read that part you will find that this so called framerate
counter doesn't work with a 3dfx card which is what I am using.
What exactly is your point anyway?

This only works in dos, and doesn't work in 3dfx at all...(at least that's
they way I read it)
<sigh> ... try to be helpful and they snap at ya :P My point? Hmm... well, I
really didn't have one beyond that. You asked how to "enable this feature." I
simply pointed you to the only place in N1999 where you can enable a framerate
display. Now I remember why I stopped frequenting this newsgroup...

I never asked how to enable that feature. I read the readme and found that
the
framerate counter is not available with my 3dfx card. So the only option
is to set graphics to AUTO and see what is drawn and what is not. It is
a common framerate measuring device in N2.
Well maybe you shouldn't take this stuff so personal and serious. OTOH,
perhaps you don't have the makeup to frequent this NG. Sheesh.
