Well after reading all the posts today about n99 I am about 99% sure I won't buy it. Yesterday i was 99% sure I was going to buy it. Perhaps it was wrong for me to expect n99 to support win95 and rendition, but looking at my shelf full of papy sims for which I built a 450/v2200 system I really don't understand how at this point in their evolution they could not build in support for 95/rendition. Because I haven't played anything but GPL for six months I was really looking forward to a nicely updated Nascar that would allow me to run in 95 and get the benefit of 8megs worth of v2200 rendition. There is so much great stuff out ther for N2 that I see no reason to get n99 for anything other than its ability to run as 95/rendition. If there is some technical issue why it does not support 95 then I would glady except it. No offense to all you 3dfx owners but after all these years of writing for rendition I dont' see why they dropped rendition for anything other than some mystical marketing reason. Micron should help rendition get even stronger in the future so I don't really get it. So please correct me if I am not getting this right, If I want to use my rendition I must play from dos, if I want to play from win 95 I must get a 3dfx card? It makes me wonder if nascar2000 will have 95/rendition support? I would even except a freakin patch. JM

The Rendition EXE will run just fine in a Win95/98 DOS box. - Eric

It runs like a champ under Win95 with my V2100.....no problem at all.

Since when is marketing to a larger audience 'mystical'? If 3Dfx was as popular when N2 was written as it is now, you would never have gotten a Rendition edition at all. Ongoing support of Rendition would be nice, but as we all know they are cutting back at Papyrus, and it makes perfect sense to cut back on a niche market. If they lose 10,000 customers over the lack of native 95/rendition, but gain 10,001 customers because of the 3fx support, then it was a good decision. Companies don't make these kinds of decisions (or any others, for that matter) because it makes their customers feel warm and fuzzy about ongoing support, they make decisions to make money. Did they ever promise to support Rendtion forever? Seems like building a system to support a practically proprietary API is the bad decision here. Yes, they are evolving, evolving into a company that supports the greatest number of machines natively. After all, if you are going to write some new software, which do you concentrate on first; the windows version, or the MAC version? blah, blah, blah daxe

well, aside from all the other stuff discussed dos box, dos , all of that is bullcrap, there is no reason why they couldn't have made it to work in windows, like everyone else, this is pure crap, cause us with pci sound boards are not going to get proper dos support and i Won't use any more dos crap,

Ummmmm.......My machine currently wont run Dos games at all, and for some reason...N99 runs great in windows....Now if you are refering to multi Player, thats a different story, as its dos or nothing from that point....but other than that, it works great. it is still a big let down for anyone that owns GPL or Viper as the physics are several years old...but hey, its free. It is funny that with my Sound Blaster PCI 64, I can play N2 or N99 just fine in a DOS box but have very, very poor sound in Windows 3DFX mode. Alot of people with the SB PCI 64 cards are having sound problems with N99 windows.

Yeah my sound kinda goes in and out in n99...its kinda muffled for a second then I tap the brake or accelerator a few times and it comes back, so i thought it was a short or something in my Pro wheel...and not to say "I fell better", but glad to see its a common problem with sound, as that is my sound card exactly.
