Need for Speed 3

Is there anyone who can tell me how to get the view of the inside of the cars in need for speed 3. I have the camera set to inside of car, but can not see the steering wheel or the dashboard, only the road outside. Hope someone can help. Geoff.

I have the same problem. I have been told by EA that it is a lack of memory on my 3dfx card. Mine has only 4 M RAM, and EA says the game needs 12 M RAM on the 3dfx to view the dashboards. It is a good game, but the lack of an in car view is a disappointment! Good Luck, Bill

Only when you're running in 3dfx glide mode. You can can the dash board view even if you have a 8M Voodoo2, just pick Voodoo2 Direct3D rendering in the NFS3 3D setup program. Normally, you will not a an option to pick 3dfx D3D mode, you have to do this : 1) Go to your NFS3 folder 2) Open the 3dsetup folder 3) find a file call 3dsetup.dat ? or 3ddata.dat ? Can't remember sorry. 4) open that file with a notepad. 5) You should see a line like this : 3dfx-D3D = 0 Just change the o to 1, so change it to 3dfx-D3D = 1 6) Run the NFS3 3Dsetup, and pick Voodoo2 D3D 7) Run NFS3 The intro movie will get screwed up, but the game runs fine, make sure you have "in-car" view in one of your camera view, then start race with the dash-board view :) It runs as fast as the glide version, but lacks some nice fogging effect and some other minor graphical glitches... Hope it helps
GW> Is there anyone who can tell me how to get the view of the inside of the GW> cars in need for speed 3. Which graficcard do you have ?? If it's a Voodoo-based card - you need a Voodoo-II/12MB... Also, man mailt sich... .\\atze [ FmMW2109 - FmMB2139 ] *home* : http://www.home4u.de/buesing/

The ability to have the full***pit view is based on the amount of available RAM in your 3d Card. Either the readme or the FAQ talks about this in detail... -Larry

This is correct. I bought a Monster-2 card with 12MB, and I now have the full dashboard view. My original Monster-1 card was a _lot_ more stable under Windows 98, however. -Larry

you have to have a voodoo 12 meg card to get the dashboards

Or a Pure 3-D Voodoo 1 card which comes with 4 meg of texture memory. :-) -Paul

This wouldn't work for me, and it's why I bought a VooDoo-2 card... I wish I had my VooDoo-1 back. Too many troubles with the V2, and NFS3 was certainly not worth spending the money for a new card. -Larry > Or a Pure 3-D Voodoo 1 card which comes with 4 meg of texture memory. :-)
Yeh I think there are thousands of people that NFS3 didnt work. My copy wouldnt work for either of my different computer... It loads at first then hangs.. Last time i buy a EA game again. Bad beta testing there...

Works for me, with no problems at all... >Yeh I think there are thousands of people that NFS3 didnt work. My copy >wouldnt work for either of my different computer... It loads at first then >hangs.. Last time i buy >a EA game again. Bad beta testing there...
I had the same problems as you guys, but then I read something about the CIH virus, that would prevent NFS3 to run ... got myself a recent anti-virus and it found about 60 -70 infected files ! since then the game works, although it hangs when loading the track each time I first start it. I then reboot and have no problems at all from this point on ... the game is great, especially with a V2, but EA could provide better customer service and testing !! Here is a reply to a inquiry about lock ups ... ORIGINAL EA You are receiving this email because you have emailed Electronic Arts, regarding lockups in Need for Speed 3. Please read the information below, if you are still experiencing any Regards EA Customer Support ***VITAL INFORMATION*** It has come to our attention that a virus called Win32/CIH has been released into the public domain from a number of sources. This virus attaches itself to any executable program (*.exe) in either Windows 95 or Windows 98. You may have this virus on your system, without any knowledge of it. This virus is extremely deadly to your machine and should not be ignored. Our latest software checks for virus infection before running. Should you encounter any 'blue-screen' crash, involving either a 'Fatal Exception' or 'VXD error', your system may be infected with the CIH virus. We recommend that you test and disinfect all of your floppy disks and check your hard disks and CD's to ensure that they are all clear from this virus. If you find a CD with the virus we recommend that you do not use it again, as a CD cannot be disinfected. Virus Killers are available from a number of sources that will remove the CIH virus from your system. The following web-sites contain either free, or time-limited evaluation versions of virus killers that will clean your system: Mcafee Viruscan (Viruscan) http://www.mcafee.com Proland Software (CleanCIH) http://pspl.com Download.com (Contains several virus killers) http://www.download.com Once you have cleaned your system, please re-install your Electronic Arts game, and try to launch it in the normal manner. Should you continue to have a problem with your software, please contact your local Electronic Arts Customer Services Department. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VIRUS HAS NOT INFECTED ANY ELECTRONIC ARTS CD - YOUR EA CD IS NOT THE SOURCE OF THE VIRUS.
I was bitterly dissappointed by the engine sounds in NFS3. We have here in New Zealand both the Ford Falcon and HVS (VT Holden) and they both sound like real groulers in true life like V8's do. In NFS3 they sound like 1200cc Jappers. Its off my HD -- Redline Race Controls Nigel of Lakewood Motorsports Nascar Coruba & Coke Chevy Hamilton New Zealand
Seems like a cheap shot at blaming a virus on POOR beta testing. They cant figure out why their software wont work and they blame everyones problem on a mysterious virus.. Ive check and im clean and still not working on NFS3. Anybody wanna buy a NFS3 CD with all docs and box for $25.00?? caster
