Hi,
My config is win98, Direct X 6.0, Diamond Voodoo2 (latest drivers),
SBLive (latest drivers), AGPi740 8megs, 64megsRAM, P-II-300, MS
Sidewinder Gamepad.
As for the game, I installed the largest 3dfx full install, updated with
the 1.09 official patch, and also updated the 3d sound.
When I play the game, it freezes in the middle of a race.
Help????

I have a very similar setup, except I use an OEM viper330agp with my
Voodoo2 and a CL PCI64 soundcard. I experienced frequent lock-ups
with the patched version as well as with the demo of the newer
version. When it froze, pressing the details button indicated an
error with one of the wav*.dll files. Based on prior usenet
responses, I decided to edit snd_cpa.ini and change the line that
looks something like:
DEFAULT=WAVX2
to something like:
DEFAULT=WAVPW
(You only change x2 to pw in the existing line)
I found my sound was not nearly as good, but the game no longer
crashed.
As a better sounding alternative, you can download the newer demo and
copy WAVd3bvr.dll from the newer demo into the same directory as your
other snd_cpa.ini and
Change the line:
DEFAULT=WAVX2 -->WAVd3
That resulted in better sound, and also got rid of the lockups.
As always, there are NO guarantees. But, it did work for me.
