Hi there
Has anyone noticed in GPL that lap times after a slide on the grass or
any off road excursion show lower laptimes, I noticed this problem in
the very early Alpha version of the demo but it is still there.
Anyone noticed the same?
Nope!
I'm just saying there possibly is an error in the lap time calculation.

I, for one, have
no idea what you are saying.

Laptimes after an offroad excursion should be slower in comparison to ones
without leaving the tarmac in a big way. I just noticed that the reported
laptime on a slower run in which I did some serious offroad excursions, i.e.
hugging the bushes, showed indeed a quicker laptime which in fact should have
reported a time 10 seconds or more slower, in comparison to a similar lap
without making mistakes.
It doesn't always happen, but there are scenarios in which this happens.
Try to run the car into the green barriers so the car slows down almost to a
standstill but without damaging the car so you can continue the lap, then check
your laptime.
If more people noticed this behaviour then I know it isn't my imagination and I
can report the bug tot Papy.
Thanks,

Hmm... that's indeed a good question... It's the first time I see this.
And it's not a "cut-course" thing neither. lol, I might sound stupid, but
couldn't that be something related to the clock in the PC ?
Oh and did you tried to reinstall GPL and see if such thing happen ? Oh and
finally, you do remember that the actual lap on the board is 1lap previous
from the one you did ? heh.

Basil,
I have'nt made any scientific calculations on this subject, but I've
noticed something like this too. I'd make a mistake and go off for a
second and at the final screen showing lap times it would list a lap
that was much quicker than what I really did. I have'nt noticed it as
much with the latest version. Anybody else see this?

Somehow I managed a 138.10 in a Ferrari at Monza with a crash and a Shift+R.
Something has got to be wrong.

plus, lap times do not match "real" time. time yourself with a stopwatch at the
'ring and check it out. hmmmmm...a problem with "the greatest racing sim ever"?
naw, i couldn't be....
;-)
Basil,
First, let me ask the obvious: On the lap where you hit the bushes, are
you looking at the pitboard right as you pass, or are you waiting a lap
to look. If you do have an off, the pitboard won't reflect the slower
time til two laps later... When you pass the pitboard for the first time
after an off, you're seeing the time for the lap prior to the one where
you went off. It can indeed look like you just got a great time for a
botched lap tho.
It may be obvious, but it's a possible explanation for lap times seeming
to disagree with on track performance...

I haven't been able to duplicate this one. I've timed laps and replays
with a stopwatch, and the times agree within a few hundredths of a
second (easily accountable if you figure my reaction times on the watch
may be a few nubdredths off)

That's not a very fast lap, it's possible to crash at a slow part of the
track and still turn a 1:35 if you recover quickly. You must remember the
time it shows on the pitboard when you are driving by - is the time for your
previous lap, NOT the lap you just completed.

I do hope this timing is correct, i had to stop hotlapping with F1RS
when i upgraded my pc because the timing went to pot.
Just as a small aside, i had my pitboard tell me at the Glen my lap was
1:06:09 and the lap recorder said 1:06:08 tonight, and yes it was that
same lap as i botched the previous one. I didnt think to save the replay
and check the time. Must get a new spotter if he's going to make
mistakes like that!
Mike.
