P200, GPL, which card?

What I decided to to was go Voodoo2, because I knew someday I would upgrade to a P2 CPU. The performance on my old P200mmx was not that great, GPL fps were in the high ***s to mid 20's. Recently switched to a P2-300, and frame rate is now high ***'s at race start with 12 AI cars, high 20's when following 3-4 cars, and solid 36 after the other cars pass me....

I have a P200 MMX system with a first-generation Rendition card (Intense 3D V1000). How will GPL run on this system? If I need a new card, what's the best card for GPL? I'm thinking of getting either a Voodoo 2 (preserves current Rendition card for other Papyrus sims) or, possibly, one of the newer Rendition cards (which?). I know the Diamond Stealth II is dirt cheap right now - but how does this 4 MB card compare to either my current V1000 or a new Voodoo 2 card (in GPL). Thanks, any advice appreciated.
You'd probably be most happy with a V2200 chip rendition card. I have a 233 mmx, and the Hercules Thriller 3d 8mb card runs GPL pretty well on my system. -- Don Burnette Palmetto Racing Dburn on Ten AOLL Iroc Administrator >I have a P200 MMX system with a first-generation Rendition card (Intense 3D >V1000). >How will GPL run on this system? >If I need a new card, what's the best card for GPL? Considerably slower than with a Stealth II. With that system Stealth II V2100 without a doubt. Great card and I'll possibly upgrade my Voodoo with a Voodoo 2 myself sometime when prices rationalise over here, but it's a relatively expensive option and your P200MMX won't do it justice. if you were gonna play Quake 2 I'd say good choice, but for GPL ..expensive call. In your system you should see about 30fps in 800x600 with this card. (guesstimate based on friend's (83Mhz bus) overclocked P233MMX & V2100).

a few observations: I had a Stealth II and a Monster 3dII(oc/95mhz) in my p200mmx at the same time. With the GPL demo, the Monster II was unquestionably better, in all respects; quality, smoothness(no fps counter then), etc. (the final wasn't out yet) racing(12-14cars), generally mid-20's. I get high 20's to max(avg=33) in training with all on exept mirrors on cars only without textures, no clouds, sounds=4. Note: The Stealth II can be used with the Rendition version of ICR2, but not flawlessly. There are graphical glitches. The game doesn't support the new versions directly and the various fixes are limited. I tried 'em all. The same holds for the 2200, apparently. The Stealth II's 2D performance was poor, as I've heard is the 8mb Thriller's. My old Stealth 3D2000Pro smoked it in Windows apps(wait, I didn't use the w..k word) and in my beloved GP2, by no small margin. I chucked it, since the V2 was so good for games, and so well supported. 2D may not matter to you, of course. The 8mb 2200 would no doubt be better than the 4mb 2100, and sounds to be a bit quicker than the Voodoo on a non-PII. Can't address visual quality myself. Either it or a Voodoo II would make you happy, I suspect. Happy hunting, Steve B.
