Avault's irreverence is indeed disturbing. We must remember,
however, that Avault is reaching out to the heathen among us,
who may not yet have seen the light. The unclean seek titilation through
lurid colors and raucous 'music,' because their senses have been
dulled to the finer pleasures of debating differential settings. Indeed,
they are - pardon my language - _gamers_ in the truest sense. While
not failing to see the error of their ways, let us nevertheless have
compassion upon their fallen state. But for the grace of Jane's and
Sierra go we there also.

another comment ------------- he says
"graphics are good ...................... but gives no sense of awe or
wonder.................."
Beg your pardon ????????????????/
I think the graphics are what actually are instrumental in the
overall popularity are effects of the sim. (not GAME -- D**BF**K !!)
I think the actually give that feeling that I have quoted more than
any other quote as a kid ------------ and when I was a cop ---------
It was a quote directly from the movie "GRAND PRIX" ----------
and the line is spoken by J P SARTI --------- (Yves Montand) ----
during the MONACO GRAND PRIX --------------- it follows -----------
" I think the if we thought -------- really thought ---------- what
it would be like to go into a tree at one hundred twenty miles per
hour -------------------- we would probably never get into the car in
the first place ---------- "
"So to do something really dangerous -------- takes a certain ABSENCE
of imagination."
( I am quoting from memory --------- didn't go to the film to find
the EXACT quote --------- but this is pretty darn close ----- I am
sure.)
Avault has no concept as to what this sim is about ---------------
but this is indicative of journalism today ------------ sub-par
reporting ----------- by sub-par "reporters" ------
ANOTHER related issure here --------------- now that I am on the
subject ------------
A recent issue of PC GAMER (I think) had a report by some dweeb
concerning GPL ----------
I was impressed by his knowledge of the sim and his "SO-CALLED"
review and report ----------- when he referred to GRANT HILL ( !!!!! )
rather than ------------------------ GRAHAM HILL ------------
Prefessionalism abounds in that industry ------------------
YEAH --------- RIGHT

people who like to drive -- or have always wanted to drive -- race cars.
That includes what, 60% of the male population? (Spot the spur of the
moment statistic).
I found out yesterday that a mate's elderly father became a GPL junkie at
the weekend. Previously he'd seen his son's hobby as a complete and utter
waste of time, effort, money, and life. Then my mate persuaded him to sit
down with GPL for ten minutes. Left him alone in the room with the PC
and... the rest is history.
In my opinion Papyrus/Sierra should be selling this sim to real car
drivers as much as the PC *** audience. It marks a change in simulation
standards and target audience. This is software that sells PC's.

They are (and good for them)!
I've seen an ad for GPL in the latest issue of RACER (though a
mag intended for a motorsports fan, they are car buffs as well),
and today I just got the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports
(one of the best periodicals out there for the gear-head/racer!),
and lo and behold, a two page GPL ad is in there as well.
Good job at getting at the "non-gamer" market, Papy!

I also applaud Sierra's marketing the game towards real
drivers, but does it have to be that stupid ad claiming that driver
fatalities led to rule changes in '68?
