I'm not sure whether to buy legends or mgpr2.
I have a pentium 400 with a voodoo 2. Can someone
give me the pros and cons of each game so I can make
a decision.
thanks Mark

modem, too? :o)

Kyalami, Monza (withOUT the chicanes), MONACO, .... etc.etc.. (11 FANTASTIC
"Legendary" TRACKS)
- Fantastic Legendary CARS: Ferrari (sounds amazing), Lotus, Brabham, BRM ,
Eagle + 2 "fantasy" cars: Coventry (ie: Cooper), and Masamura (ie: Honda)
- Fantastic Internet Play
- GPL is the best racing game known to mankind
- Phenomenal attention to detail
- Crash and burn (literally!)
- You will be able to drive a car better, using your "performance" driving
skills learned in GPL
- and a MILLION more reasons
Grand Prix Legends: Con's
- You might find yourself getting a speeding ticket on your way to work
- Your wife/girlfriend/significant other(inc. pet***atiel) may leave you
- You will lose sleep
- You will not have a social life (except for you Net Racing friends)
- It will "ruin" your opinion of every other racing game out there.
MGPR2: Pro's:
-hmmmm
It's got Monaco!
MGPR2: Con's:
- some say it is "worse" than the original F1RS
- still buggy
- still has crappy menus
- after driving GPL, F1RS, MGPR2 is "ruined", as it just isn't as "real"
- no real teams
- GPL has Monaco too!
I urge you, implore you, beg you... DON'T buy MGRP2. You will be wasting
your money. GPL is THE racing game of the Year, Decade, Century, etc.etc.
(and if for some strange reason you don't like it - can't image why not..
but IF, Sierra has a money-back Satisfaction guarantee).
Oh, did I mention GPL is the best racing game known to mankind?

GPL Pros:
AWESOME physics model
Driving is fantastinc (once you get the hang of it)
AI is pretty good (but still has problems, I wont go into that)
You can get it from EBWorld for $34.99 (shipping included)
Ferrari sound
You can play it over the internet
GPL Cons:
It's really damn hard
It needs a really fast computer (which you have, so this isnt really a
con)
MGPRS2 Pros: (note * I've only played the demo *)
Graphics are pretty
Cars look quite nice
...?
MGPRS2 Cons:
I heard it's buggy
No real F1 license (download new carsets)
Sound sucks
prolly some other stuff to... I dont have it

I bought Monaco about a week before GPL came out. I payed Monaco a lot,
updated the tracks and cars and basically had a lot of fun...
Then GPL came out. I haven't played Monaco since.
From Chequered Flag to F1RS2 I've played them all (Well almost), nothing
comes close to GPL.

Sorry your PC can't support it. Welcome to the *** world buddy. It's an
expensive hobby, as you see.
Of course, there's an OpenGL beta patch available. If your video card
doesn't support OpenGL rasterizer, you need to really change it to be
"up-to-date" with about every game out in the shelves in the future.
Still, you can say NO words against GPL since you never really "tried it".
Because if you would see it scream in 1024x768 at 36fps drafting at Spa with
a Ferrari, you will easily see how it lets MGP really in the dust heavily.

If you can, buy both. Each one is excellent.
Ever heard NFL fans (or European soccer fans) talk about their favorite
players or teams? Either the team or player "sucks" or "is the best ever".
That's what you'll get here at r.a.s. when you ask a question like yours.
Not too any months ago, what you heard at r.a.s. was that F1RS was the
ultimate of all racing sims, nothing else came close, and all the others
"sucked". Now the same thing is said about GPL. All the adjectives you hear
being used about GPL now, were used then, often by the same people. Before
either one the ultimate was GP2. They'll be another new "ultimate"
eventually.
MGP is a significantly improved version of F1RS. The handling of the cars
doesn't even feel similiar to F1RS as far as I'm concerned.
MGP is a simulator of modern F1 racing and GPL is a simulator of 60's F1
racing. The two types of racing are so different that comparing them to each
other is like comparing NASCAR racing to CART. What you buy depends on what
type of racing you'd prefer.
People will say that the physics engine of GPL is superior and that's why
it's the better sim. Unless they were in the offices and worked on both
sims, I'm not sure how they can claim to know this for a fact but they sure
act like they do. I personally think that both sims probably have complex
enough physics engines that the difference is negligible. Also, without the
feedback a person gets while driving a real car, a sim can have a great
physics engine but still not deliver a realistic driving "experience". A sim
with a less detailed physics engine can give a more realisitic driving
experience if the absence of real life feedback is compensated for in a
superior way.
Like I said, I think they both are fantastic (even with their flaws) and I'd
highly recommend each of them. They're my two favorite sims. If you end up
not liking one, just return it.

I agree with David.I've had MGP for a week now and must say it's a big
improvement over F1RS.The feel and balance of the cars is way better, full
opposite lock power slides are possible, the difficulty is much higher, and the
editor is easy to use.If you're into modern F1 racing it's a must buy.
As for GPL,it's really that great, just buy it already!

the '??? sucks' guys from RAS, and also ones who comment on sims with only
having used demo versions or not tried at all!
Mark, take heed of David's comments and buy both.

Exactly the same experience here, bought Monaco the day it came out,
updated everything, played it extensively for a week, then GPL came out.
For the first week I was getting by on three hours sleep a night due to
extensive practice and on-line racing. I've managed to cut back on GPL a
bit now, so I am now getting nearly 5 hours sleep a night :)
I thought I would go back to Monaco at the weekend, but all my
enthusiasm for it had gone, I barely managed to finish one qualifying
session let alone a race before going back to GPL.

Depends whose posts you read, surely? I see a lot of objectivity now I've
learned whose posts to concentrate on.
Of course the *only* opinion that counts is the individual's. Fortunately
both GPL and F1rs2 have demos so he can make up his own mind.
Personally, I played both demos. I bought GPL... and deleted everything
else :-)
