d00d, Warez r00Lz. That's reason enough. This is America. There is no right or wrong. The president can perjure himself. Why can't we download warez? Remember this: You have to use the master's tools to dismantle the masters house. First off, never talk about warez in a legitimate newsgroup, you WILL get flamed. There are more than enough warez newsgroups for it. And the president, whatever his many faults, probably can spell Dude and Rules, without the goofy, "I am a 15 year old lamer trying to act like a hacker" way of writing it. Prove yourself better than Clinton, and do the right thing - get mommy to buy your software, don't use her AOL account scouring FTP sites for Grand Theft Auto. Ken

Where did I say that owning the above sims justifies me downloading this Newmann Haas game? I just wrote that as an afterthought. On another note, people like to chide others that have done something bad like download a warez game even though if it's just to check it out before spending one's hard earned cash. If I had the time, the desire, and the opportunity to screen everything that one of these holy simmers do, I'm sure that I would find a few things they do that is morally or illegally wrong. Hmmm, maybe going 31+ MPH in a 30 MPH zone? 51+ MPH in a 50MPH zone? And they would probably find some excuse to justify it. Give me a break! Nobody

<snip> > First off, never talk about warez in a legitimate newsgroup, you WILL get > flamed. There are more than enough warez newsgroups for it. True. I only did it in case someone might be curious to hear what the game is like since some of these people don't know where to go or what to do for downloading Warez games. Also, I find that most of these game reviews are very subjective and sometimes misleading. Well, I don't know if you're responding to the original poster or the person you actually replied to above, but I like to spend my cash on things that are worth it in my opinion. I've bought over $5K in software and games over the last 4 years; more than $10K in computers and peripherals. And, I've even bought my brother and my mom a computer each w/ software. I even pay for my own internet account. I've been burned a few times paying for such crappy games and software. That's why I do what I do. If it's a quality game, then I'll pay for it. If not, the game is forever off my drive and never to be seen again. No lost revenue for the developer and my money is spent on something better. Let's put this thread to rest. Nameless

And how many tapes do all have with movies or tv shows recorded????? Oh not the same thing you say??? BS! It is just as copywritten as half the ***for the PC...and yes I do mean crap...look at GPL....that totally sucks moose!!!! So unless no one here records televison progs or movies... I'd slowly back of and disappear from this conversation...and anyone says they don't record movies...I'd have to say 89 % if not more were lying.....something to think about:)) Regards........Mr.West

Although not spelled-out, placing your "afterthought" at the end of your post 'implied' that there was a link to the body of the thread. You may not have intended it this way, but that's how it came out. All I asked was where does one justify the other - No judgement was made, nor implied. Just so there's no further misunderstanding, I'm responding only because the final comment in your previous post: -- Marc J. EXACTLY software companies too often produce such complete garbage.. then hype it and rip us all off

>EXACTLY >software companies too often produce such complete garbage.. >then hype it and rip us all off This is why you either buy ar Electronics Boutique or somewhere that takes returns, or you resist impulse buying, let some other suckers buy it and post the good/bad news on Usenet and make your decision then. If you trust all the hype and buy based on that, that's your fault, not the software company's. Do you get a refund at the movies if the movie is crap? Nope, you just eat the $5 and tell some friends the movie sucked so they don't waste their money - same thing with software. If we did everything like Warez, we'd sneak into the theater, watch the movie, and if it didn't suck, supposedly we'd go and see it again, this time paying for the ticket. Ken

people >that lash out at the warez people (even the ones that just use it as a demo >for a game with no demo), have a nice little collection of .mp3s >b Oh yes, everyone else is a thief so it justifies your stealing. Nope, no MP3's here. Just because you have a ton next to your warez doesn't mean the rest of us do. For TV shows and movies broadcast into my home, it is 100% legal for me to tape them and watch them as much as I want. I cannot make tapes from a Top Gun DVD and sell or distribute them, but I can make 100 of 'em for my own personal use, same with CD's - I can tape 'em as much as I want for my own personal use, but I can't sell or distribute them. I can, strangely enough, legally make backup copies of all the software I own. I could burn CD copies of GPL or whatever, but I CANNOT distribute them, for free, or for profit. Can't use copies on different machines at the same time. This is where your analogy turns to complete and utter bullshit. Warez are copies that ARE distributed without authorization, so they ARE ILLLEGAL. Copyright laws allow FAIR USE, which includes making copies of TV programs or backups of programs, but NOT WAREZ or selling bootleg copies of Scream 2 made from hooking 2 VCR's together. Nice and convenient to think that everyone else is stealing, so it makes it fine and dandy for you - thing is, you made up your own little version of the truth to justify your illegal actions. And you generalized about everyone else, when you don't know jack about me or the other "89%" that you think is lying. When you come in and say you got the program through Warez, you admitted to stealing it, I don't have to wonder about what you may or may not have done. Do I really care whether you do it? No. That's between you and the FBI. Just don't preach to me that it's justified, or come into a regular newsgroup and tell me about it without expecting flames. There are enough alt.2600 and alt.warez groups to discuss it on aren't there? Ken

Ecuse ....I don't think anyone is stealing here..look at the thread my friend..and I don't think anyone called anyone a thief we just said 89% probably have copies of tapes CD's etc...:) . Warez are copies that ARE distributed without authorization, so Oh so it's ok to copy Star Wars even if you didn't buy it...with out George Lucas's authorization..hmmmmmm...damn I am confused There you go again.. I don't copy progs pal..I am making a point about people who copy the stuff..It don't affect me..so why bother? Bill Gates don't give a rats *** about whether you defend his programs..or the other 100's of company's...you need to re-read the thread and quote who you are speaking to...:)

Im late but who cares.. Actually I have no interest in *.mp3 files.. I don't like the sound quality of them (a little bit too much electronic to me). I got still 2 files on my Zip drive, all legal. The first one is my vynil disk of the 1977 version of the Star Wars Disco album by meco (Hit of the summer btw ;-D ). This is an original disk that has great value to me, so I want to protect it now. The *.mp3 was the only solution for me to listen to it. The second is just a 4mins Formula 1 car sound *.mp3 that I found on Mr.Boers website. It's not illegal at all. Actually, many of us just really hate illegal stuff.. (ok you can flame me about the Indy track on r.a.s. hehe). Just understand that. - Fran?ois Mnard <ymenard> Good race at the Brickyard! - Official Mentally retarded guy of r.a.s. - Excuse me for my English (I'm French speaking) - Sponsored by http://www.awpss.com/ on the NROS - "People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."--
