TSW vs. ECCI Recommendations Please

Currently I using a TM Nascar Pro/F1 wheel and pedal set for GPL, but I am considering upgrading to a better wheel (GPL is the first sim that has caused me to seriously consider this). I have narrowed my choices to the TSW and ECCI wheels. Given that they are both quite expensive, I would appreciate comments re: how much better these wheel/pedal sets are over the Nascar Pro/F1, and whether the TSW or ECCI is a better choice. Also, regarding the TSW, is the more expensive Formula version considerably better that the stock version? Thanks in advance for your help. Timothy Moran
I have been using an ECCI system for almost three years now. It is incredibly robust and precise. Also Extreme Competition Controls have been very helpful and responsive. They even sent me two free replacement brake pedal springs when the original broke last month. (most bizarre feeling when you have a REAL mechanical failure in a simulation!)

Hmmm... As several owners will attest, both ECCI's and TSW's are fantastic products. They should be for what one must pay for them. I certainly don't want to start a flame war. However, I remember a thread a few months back about replacement pots for a TSW's that even included a post from someone from ECCI. At the end of the day, among the themes was more or less "ECCI's pots are better than TSW's." I'm glad ECCI responded to your need. No product is perfect. Pots inevitably wear out and are easily replaced. However, I'll assure you that monkeys will fly out of my ***before any spring on my TSW Stock breaks. Jim Moore Satisfied TSW Customer

I'll bet you could make alot of money when they do. (-: I'm not sure how the springs on his ECCI broke but I'm sure that it is an oddity. I would venture to say that mine will never break but I can assure you if they do you'll see no monkeys coming out of my butt. I've never tried the TM wheel, and have only *very* briefly tried out a TSW, as I own an ECCI CDS. Actually I now own 2, as I only just upgraded my 3yr old original CDS to the latest model, the excellent CDS4000. I wish I could go into some detail about the differences between the TSW and CDS, but I'd need more time at one for that. Hopefully in a week or 2 I will have had a decent shot at one. You'll need a lot of space for the ECCI CDS as both of its units are really very big. The pictures on the web site: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/extreme don't really do justice to its sheer size, especially of the pedals which literally dwarf your feet. The size, and incredible build quality mean that it's not something that needs bolting down, but you won't want to be carting this around very far, too often! The CDS is substantially costlier than the TSW which has always looked a bit crude to my eyes. The fact that I bought another when the first was perfectly functional should demonstrate that I think it's worth every penny. I don't know how adjustable the TSW is, but I can attest to the flexibility of the CDS design as I've had some trouble adjusting to it. The reason for this is that my original model CDS had a 180degree steering lock. The newer CDS allows 180, 200, 220, and 240, defaulting to 240. As well as that the old CDS had a MUCH, MUCH lighter feel to the steering, where it is now extremely adjustable between something like 57 and 197lbs. I've had to reduce the steering lock to get something that feels like my older CDS as I was so used to the older one. Micheal, Is that because we will likely be hundreds of miles apart, making the monkeys difficult for me to see or do you simply think that they are shy and would likely remain lodged in your bowel? Jim I'm not sure how the springs on his ECCI broke but I'm sure that it is an oddity. I would venture to say that mine will never break but I can assure you if they do you'll see no monkeys coming out of my butt.
